Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Hidden Malice

Akari's power would be sealed soon, so she tried to do as much as possible to complete all her tasks before that happened. She reinforced the barrier around little black so that it could last a few years. Thanks to Kikyou's advice, Akari could undo a small part of the seal that the world's consciousness imposed on her. With this power, Akari strengthened the barrier. The most Akari managed to achieve was thirty years. The barrier would remain in place for that period of time as long as it didn't suffer significant damage. She did this because she realized the demonic power of little black was growing slowly, so she didn't know how much time he needed to break his shell. She wanted him to have enough time to grow and become strong. She took care of Kikyou's soul too, so it wasn't easy.

But it wasn't time to waste. Naraku was chasing Kohaku, and Akari had to purify the fragment. She saw how Inuyasha obtained the attack of the infernal light from Sesshōmaru, and she felt quite conflicted because very soon she herself would be trapped in that technique.

Thereafter, they followed Naraku's spider web until they found a priestess who had been murdered by him some time ago. She was Hitomiko. Akari was very interested in the way Hitomiko built barriers. She used bells as anchors to strengthen them. Akari shot one of the bells to be drawn to Hitomiko and listened to her words carefully, noticing it was the same as the original story.

She glanced surreptitiously at Naraku, but he was acting as always. If he wasn't suspicious of her, why did he show her true fears the last time? Was it just a coincidence?

"You didn't use the true power of the bow. It's as if you weren't using your spiritual power". Hitomiko said.

Of course, I'm not; I don't know how to use it. And even if I knew I couldn't use it anyway. Akari murmured in her heart.

Hitomiko tried to kill her, but finally she recovered herself for a second and told her.

"Shoot through me. You should believe in the bow and in yourself." Akari believed, so she shot and reached Naraku without hurting Hitomiko.

Hotomiko fell to the ground and said. "You—your power has been sealed." Akari nodded and said.

"Thank you for your help. You can rest now."

Akari returned home and rested, this time staying with her family, as she was exhausted, and she didn't know if she could return after the final fight.

"Are you okay, Akari? You look distracted." Her mother asked.

"I'm fine, Mother. I'm sorry." Akari shook her head and smiled.

Her mother looked at her for a while and said. "Akari, remember that we are always here for you."

Akari felt moved and said.

"Thank you, Mother."

When she rejoined Inuyasha and the others, they found Sesshōmaru fighting with the evil will of the Shikon Jewel. Sango asked her to purify Kohaku's fragment because it was corrupted. However, at that moment, Magatsuhi looked at Akari, and she pushed Sango away along with Kohaku.

Akari could feel how, behind the seal of Magatsuhi, the world's consciousness had taken advantage to hide another seal aimed at her own soul. Akari clenched her teeth, furious. It practically wanted to leave her without spiritual power. At that moment, it was no different than trying to kill her. If that's how you want to play, Akari is willing to be even more ruthless than you.

She used all the power that she had unblocked and attacked the seal. She managed to destroy part of it, but when the other part was about to hit her soul, Akari transferred the damage to her body, thus preventing damage to her soul. Because of this, her body was covered with wounds as if thousands of knives had cut it. Sango was astonished when the blood splashed on her face. She watched as Akari collapsed on the ground and ran toward her.

"Akari!" Akari could hear Sango yells, but she had no strength to answer. Her last thought before she fainted was that she definitely would take revenge for this.

When Akari regained consciousness, the fight was already finished thanks to Sesshōmaru, who had obtained his own sword, and her wounds had been bandaged.

"Akari, how do you feel?" Sango asked.

Akari slowly sat up and said.

"It isn't so bad." Inuyasha and Miroku noticed she was awake, so they walked toward her and asked.

"Are you okay? What happened? What did Magatsuhi do to you?" Akari looked at Sango and said.

"Where is Kohaku?" Sango, still confused, answered.

"He is still sleeping." Akari moved toward him and tried to purify the fragment.

"What are you doing? You have to rest." Inuyasha said.

"I can't purify the fragment." Akari said.

The others were surprised, and Inuyasha asked.

"Was it Magatsuhi?" Akari nodded and said.

"I felt he wanted to seal my spiritual power completely, so I transferred the damage to my body. However, the spiritual power to remain is not much. I can't purify his corruption." Inuyasha and the others stayed silent for a moment before speaking.

"Don't worry. It's not your fault." Akari smiled and nodded. Yeah, it's not her fault. But the real guilty party will definitely pay. She will make sure of that.
