"Spread out!"
At the sight of the ferocious-looking golems, the drow matron immediately fell back.
The elven warriors split into small groups and dispersed in an orderly fashion. Their arrows never stopped flying, and even the deaths of their companions failed to cause the slightest change in their expressions.
The golems and Shield Guardians split up in pursuit. Red light blazed in the iron golem's eyes as it locked onto the drow matron.
After a brief pause, a flash of light flickered across the golem's head, and Fire Arrows and Force Arrows shot out once more—except this time, it didn't even raise its hands.
The spells were inscribed directly into the golem's core. Their casting flexibility was extremely high; raising its hands was often nothing more than a feint.
The tactic proved effective. Several more drow were severely wounded.
However, the Fire Arrow aimed at the drow matron was intercepted by a tall drow warrior, who split it apart with a single sword strike. The flames erupted in midair and were effortlessly avoided.
The drow matron murmured an incantation, and streaks of magical radiance descended onto the tall warrior.
With a roar, the drow warrior led a five-man squad forward and charged directly at the iron golem.
The iron golem swung a slab-like greatsword down at him, but he twisted aside and narrowly dodged. The movement looked awkward, yet he emerged completely unharmed.
Whoosh—
The greatsword swept horizontally in the next instant, the motion flawless, as though it had been honed through countless battles.
The drow warrior hastily pushed off the ground, twisting his waist in midair to barely evade the second attack.
His gaze remained steady, his jaw clenched tight. It was obvious he was under immense pressure.
He was dancing on the edge of death. One mistake was all it would take for him to be crushed into pulp, and the protective spells on him might not save him.
Fortunately, he still had comrades supporting him.
The iron golem showed no emotion. Lowering its head slightly, it exhaled a cone of purplish-red mist from its mouth, engulfing two drow who had just rushed forward.
The poisonous cloud swept across the battlefield, its pungent stench spreading on the breeze.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
The drow held their breath, cursing the golem's underhanded tactics as they scrambled out of the poisoned area.
The two drow who had taken the toxic breath head-on were far less fortunate. Their bodies turned bluish-purple as they collapsed to the ground, only to be caught by the advancing iron golem and hacked into four pieces with a single swing.
The cross-sections were jagged and grotesque. Calling it a slash was generous—it looked more like they had been smashed apart.
Clearly, the drow had little experience fighting iron golems and were suffering one setback after another.
'Attack its head!' the tall drow warrior shouted.
The iron golem answered with its bladed iron arms, forcing him into a desperate retreat.
The golem's combat techniques had been designed by mages using the finest warriors as templates. Its movements were broad and powerful, textbook-perfect, yet never rigid. It adapted freely to the flow of battle.
The drow could only throw their lives at it. Still, their abilities were far from weak. They deliberately targeted the golem's joints and head, denting its steel shell with blow after blow.
Anser glanced at Mason and noticed that he had been staring at the drow matron the entire time without joining the fight himself.
Both sides had their reservations.
With a wave of his hand, the air elemental joined Valera and the others in their assault on the enemy.
'Let's clear out the fodder first.'
The enemy held an overwhelming numerical advantage and had many capable adventurers among their ranks. If he stayed out of the battle, Valera's side would likely suffer heavy casualties.
His dragon wings beat once as he fixed his gaze on seven or eight drow at the edge of the battlefield. Working together flawlessly, they had managed to pin down a single Shield Guardian.
When they saw Anser approaching from the air, their expressions turned grim.
Yet instead of retreating, they moved even closer to the Shield Guardian.
It seemed they intended to use the construct as a hostage, forcing him to hold back for fear of damaging it.
Anser dropped slightly lower, maintaining a distance of roughly 110 meters as magic power surged around him.
"ફાયરબોલકલા"
Metamagic: Transmuted Spell + Fireball - Poison!
After a short draconic incantation, a brilliant flash burst from his fingertips and instantly landed above the Shield Guardian.
BOOM—!
A dark-green sphere of poison more than twenty-four meters across erupted outward, engulfing both the Shield Guardian and the surrounding drow.
[Target killed. Gained 217 experience points.]
[...Drow Elite Warrior hit, suffered 35 poison damage. Current Hit Points: 32/75]
Bodies hit the ground one after another.
Aside from a single elite warrior and one lucky survivor, the rest died without even managing a scream.
Even the Shield Guardian froze for a moment. It looked around at the carnage before spotting the elite warrior and charging him once again.
'Heh. Constructs are immune to poison. What about you?'
A smile tugged at Anser's lips.
In truth, the enemy's decision hadn't been wrong. Unfortunately for them, he simply had too many ways to solve a problem.
Diving downward, he unleashed one Mind Sliver after another while coordinating with the Shield Guardian, easily finishing off two more drow.
[Target killed. Gained 1,573 experience points.]
'Nice. I'm going to make a fortune today.'
He immediately rushed toward the next group of enemies.
He specifically targeted those fighting the golems and Shield Guardians. One poison sphere after another crashed down, blooming all across the battlefield like giant poisonous mushrooms.
The draconic chants and explosions became death knells.
Every time they sounded, the drow's hearts trembled.
They wanted to flee.
But they didn't dare.
After more than a dozen poison spheres, over half of the ordinary drow had been wiped out.
Only thirty or forty elite warriors remained, clustered around the drow matron.
The situation had been completely reversed.
The efficiency was terrifying.
Watching from the outskirts of the battlefield, Jiandar was utterly mesmerized.
His mind couldn't help drifting back to the glorious battle mages of the past.
'Yes... this is it. This is exactly it...'
Anser felt exhilarated.
This was what he did best.
With Mason, Valera, and the golems keeping the enemy leaders and elites occupied, he had nothing to worry about.
Bullying weaklings?
I excel at that!
Of course, after all that, his remaining Magic Power was running low. He had just over eighty points left, and a faint ache was beginning to build behind his eyes.
The moment he stopped casting, before he could even catch his breath, he turned and saw that the constructs had already scattered the enemy once more.
Valera's followers quickly moved in and isolated them.
Mason and Valera immediately seized the opportunity, joining forces against the drow matron and the drider.
Although Mason was a psionicist, his spellcasting abilities were far from weak. Combined with Valera's close-quarters combat skills, they gained the upper hand almost as soon as the battle began.
The drow matron calmly expanded an aura around herself.
The tide of battle immediately shifted.
Any spell that entered the area within several meters of her instantly unraveled and dissipated, unable to produce any effect.
Valera was forcibly driven back by the drider.
'An Antimagic Field?'
Anser narrowed his eyes.
He knew this was probably the genuine article.
Antimagic Field was a true 8th-level abjuration spell. Centered on the caster, it could last for an entire hour.
During that time, all magical effects were suppressed.
Even teleportation was impossible.
Unfortunately, the drow matron had miscalculated once again.
Mason was a psionicist—a telekinetic, to be precise.
Spellcasting was not his greatest strength.
Telekinesis was.
Telekinetics wielded their malleable psionic power directly. They could shape telekinetic force into impregnable barriers, and when attacking, their blows struck with the force of a siege ram.
Shape psionic power into creation and destruction!
Sure enough, in the next moment, streams of the purest psychic energy transformed into telekinetic bolts and shot one after another toward the drow matron and the drider.
