In a gritty version of Chicago, magic doesn't come from wands. It bubbles up from the earth along Ley Lines. These lines run directly beneath the city streets. If you control the street, you control the magic.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Character Introduction

This story will have three main factions at the start, and there may be more as the story progresses. I've decided to make this chapter introducing the leaders of these factions.

The Alchemist Leader: Silas "The Forge" Vane

Faction: The Foundry (Controls the Industrial District).

Vibe: Heavy metal, heat, transmutation, unyielding force.

Appearance: A massive man who wears a custom suit reinforced with copper wiring. His right arm has been permanently changed into living tungsten steel after a deal went wrong.

Motivation: He wants to turn the city into a perfect machine. He sees the chaos of the city as a flaw that needs fixing.

Signature Magic: He can change matter by touch, such as turning a brick wall into glass to shoot through it, or changing a rival's car tires into water.

The Necromancer Leader: Isobel "The Widow" Grave

Faction: The Hollows (Controls the Old Town and Cemetery District).

Vibe: Cold, whispers, shadows, information brokerage.

Appearance: She looks deceptively young but has eyes that seem ancient. A faint smell of ozone and funeral lilies surrounds her. She operates out of a high-end funeral parlor.

Motivation: Survival and gathering secrets. She believes the dead know more than the living, using ghosts as spies throughout the city.

Signature Magic: Shadow-walking, which lets her step into a shadow in one room and appear in another, and "Dead-Speak," allowing her to interrogate murder victims.

The Kinetic Leader: Jax "High-Voltage" Miller

Faction: The Current (Controls the Transit System and the "L" Train tracks).

Vibe: Punk rock, static electricity, restless motion, high-speed anarchy.

Appearance: Lean and wired, he vibrates with too much caffeine or energy. He wears a heavy leather trench coat lined with rubber insulation to prevent grounding his own power. Pale Lichtenberg figures (lightning scars) branch up his neck and across his left cheek. His hair stands slightly on its own, reacting to the charge in the air.

Motivation: Flow. He dislikes Silas's stagnation and Isobel's fixation on the past. Jax believes magic and people need to move to survive. He aims to uncork the Ley Lines and let the magic flood the streets wildly, creating a free city.

Signature Magic:

Rail-Riding: He can dissolve his physical body into pure electricity to travel instantly along power lines, copper wires, or the third rail of the train tracks.

Overload: He can touch a streetlamp or fuse box and trigger a chain reaction, blacking out the power grid of an entire neighborhood or frying the nervous system of anyone standing in a puddle nearby.
