Chapter 153 - Chapter 153: Family

On the carriage bearing the Wald family emblem, Yago stared straight ahead at the teacup before him, as if trying to see flowers bloom from it.

Eren, meanwhile, looked somewhat preoccupied. Of course, Armin and Mikasa were there as well.

Armin hugged the book his grandfather had left him and read with relish. Ever since he learned from Yago that everything recorded in this book truly existed, Armin had become filled with longing for the world beyond the island.

Armin really wanted to see the water of flame, the sea of sand, the land of ice, and that vast ocean formed entirely of saltwater.

Yago secretly raised his head to glance over, and then a sharp pain shot through his waist. Annie sat expressionlessly behind Yago, one hand resting on his lower back.

Yago had no idea what was wrong with Annie. Ever since the succession ceremony ended, she had been like this—whenever she saw him, she looked angry.

Lisa Wald, seated on the other side, couldn't help but cover her mouth and smile when she saw this scene.

To be honest, Yago was really slow to react. At times like this, he should have taken the initiative to comfort her, but instead Yago chose to argue with Annie, rattling off a whole bunch of reasoning and successfully leaving Annie speechless—only to be rewarded with a bout of domestic violence.

And so, the group rode the carriage all the way to the Wald estate.

...

"I'm very sorry, everyone. Please forgive me for not being able to entertain you—there are family matters I need to handle," Lisa said apologetically.

"You're far too polite, Miss Lisa," Yago and the others replied as they thanked her.

Following the familiar path from last time, Yago and the others soon arrived in front of the house where Lucia and Carla lived.

Knock knock knock. As the wooden door was knocked on, Eren's expression became a little unnatural.

Creak. Lucia opened the door. When she saw Yago standing there, a hint of delight appeared on her face. Then, when she noticed Annie beside him, Lucia's eyes practically lit up.

"Yago, you're back! Oh my, Annie is here too. Come, let Auntie take a look. Hey, doesn't Annie seem thinner? There's hardly any flesh left on that little face." After hurriedly giving Yago a hug, Lucia ran straight to Annie, hugging her and fussing over whether she had eaten properly.

Yago stood there dumbfounded. What is this—this mom can't be kept anymore? She doesn't even care about her own son? Annie, meanwhile, looked very well-behaved, softly answering Lucia's questions. Watching this made Yago's eyelids twitch—when you were pinching my waist just now, you weren't this gentle!

On the other side, Lucia also noticed the three kids. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin politely greeted her.

Lucia immediately turned toward the house and called out,

"Carla, come out quickly! The kids are back—Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are all here."

What followed was a burst of hurried footsteps. Carla, whose leg had been injured, was much better now—at least she no longer needed a cane to walk.

Eren stood at the doorway, his expression uneasy. But when that familiar figure appeared before him, tears instantly moistened his eyes.

"Eren!" Carla was also overwhelmed with emotion. She pulled Eren into her arms. Ever since the Titans destroyed the walls, Carla had worried about her child every moment, but thankfully, her child now stood before her, completely unharmed.

"Mom, I'm sorry. I should have come back to see you sooner," Eren didn't know what was wrong with him. His tears wouldn't stop. A sense of shame from nowhere enveloped him, and as he looked at his mother, Eren even let out a few sobs.

Yago watched the mother and son embrace, his heart filled with emotion as well. In older Eren's memories, Aunt Carla had died by a Titan's mouth right before Eren's eyes. Yago didn't dare imagine what it would be like if Lucia or Annie were harmed in front of him while he could do nothing.

Perhaps changing fate is the reason I'm called the Fate Titan. Thinking this, Yago smiled.

"Then there are even more fates waiting for me to change."

...

In the kitchen, Lucia's constant concern for Annie made Yago, who was completely neglected, start to wonder—just who is actually your child?

On the other hand, Annie's heart felt warm. Lucia's care made Annie feel a long-lost sense of familial affection. Of course, seeing Yago beside her wearing a resentful expression, Annie snorted proudly.

Lucia took in the behavior of both of them. As for Annie, this girl, Lucia truly liked her from the bottom of her heart. It was just that her own silly son didn't seem very promising—really making this old mother worry.

At lunchtime, the atmosphere was extremely warm. For some reason, Lucia and Carla tacitly avoided mentioning anything about what had happened to Eren and Yago. They just kept picking up food for the children and urging them to eat more.

Just as Lucia treated Annie, Carla was also full of affection for Mikasa. You could almost say she had watched Mikasa grow up, so naturally, she was very satisfied with her.

However, if Lucia felt that Yago was as stiff and dull as a block of wood, then Carla felt that Eren was like a straight steel bar—so straight you couldn't bend him.

The look Mikasa gave Eren with her eyes was practically speaking, yet Eren stubbornly maintained the demeanor of an utterly straight man. Perhaps among everyone present, only Yago truly understood Eren's real feelings.

Eren's feelings for Mikasa had always been just as intense; he had simply buried them deep in his heart.

Yago very gracefully ignored his mother's dissatisfied gaze and focused solely on eating.

...

At night, Annie sat beside Yago on the flowerbed outside, watching the twinkling stars and the bright moon in the sky. Moonlight poured down, starlight dotted the heavens—it was beautiful. Annie beneath the starry sky was also very beautiful, and Yago found it very pleasing to look at.

"Aunt Lucia is really nice," Annie said.

Yago replied, "Yeah, Mom has always been great. Annie, tell me—since my mother treats you so well, if I meet Mr. Leonhart someday, do you think he'll beat me up?"

Annie: "? What? Why would Father beat you?"

Yago gave a mischievous grin and said, "Because I ran off with his daughter."

Bang! Someone was kicked straight off the flowerbed.
