Chapter 423: Limbo: Border Jail
Five brilliant golden beams of light, like lightning tearing through the grayish-white sky, sprouted from Uzumaki Yuji's back, piercing toward Uchiha Madara with a chilling whistle.
"Adamantine Sealing Chains?"
Uchiha Madara's Rinnegan shifted slightly, glancing at the rapidly approaching golden chains; a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but it was mostly the excitement of finding a worthy opponent.
"Not only the Rinnegan, but you've even mastered the Uzumaki Clan's highest-level Sealing Jutsu so proficiently. Kid, your talent is truly impressive."
Before his voice had even faded, Madara's figure had already moved.
He did not meet the attack head-on, instead displaying astonishing combat intuition and body control.
With a tilt of his upper body, he narrowly avoided two chain-spears that brushed past his chest and waist; the wind from the chains even tore his robes.
At the same time, he swung the deep blue gunbai in his hand to his side, the heavy surface acting like a shield as it met the remaining three Adamantine Sealing Chains!
Clang! Clang! Psch!
The first two chains slammed hard against the gunbai, producing dull thuds; the surface vibrated violently, and the Chakra light flickered.
However, the third chain's sharp spearhead, relying on its immense piercing power, actually managed to puncture the gunbai's surface.
More troublesome still, the two Adamantine Sealing Chains he had dodged seemed to possess a life of their own, carving two golden arcs in the air and turning back to strike from Madara's rear and diagonal above like venomous dragons emerging from their den.
Just then, another vast and life-filled power joined the fray.
"Wood Release!"
Senju Hashirama, who had been waiting on the sidelines for an opportunity, immediately seized the moment when he saw Uzumaki Yuji's attack distracting Madara!
He let out a heroic shout and slammed his hands together in front of his chest.
Like an earth dragon turning over, the grayish-white ground beneath Hashirama's feet shook violently, and countless thick, python-like dark brown roots burst from the earth.
These roots surged forward along the ground toward Uchiha Madara's position with a near-frenzied "invasive" speed.
Wherever they passed, the ground was plowed into deep furrows, and even hard rocks were easily pushed aside.
Even more amazing was that as these roots spread, their main bodies rapidly sprouted branches and leaves, growing into towering trees that would take several people to encircle in the blink of an eye.
It was as if the roots weren't growing trees, but rather the trees were "descending" in synchronization with the spreading roots.
Within a few breaths, the area around Madara was surrounded by a dense forest that had suddenly risen from the ground.
Thick trunks, interlaced branches, and spreading vines formed a natural cage, drastically compressing Madara's space to dodge, especially when coordinated with the two returning Adamantine Sealing Chains, forming a perfect three-dimensional pincer attack.
"Shinra Tensei!"
Facing the desperate situation of being attacked from all sides, Uchiha Madara's expression remained cold.
The ripples in his Rinnegan suddenly accelerated their rotation, and a terrifying repulsive force exploded outward from his body!
The first to be hit were the two returning Adamantine Sealing Chains.
Their sharp spearheads were instantly repelled; the entire chains trembled and bent under the massive repulsive force, emitting a metallic wail as they were sent flying far away.
Next was Hashirama's Wood Release forest that was growing wildly in an attempt to surround him.
The invisible repulsive force seemed to form an absolute Domain; all trees, branches, and vines approaching Madara were forcibly repelled and pushed away, growing "around" the edge of the repulsive field, unable to penetrate even a fraction of an inch.
Around Madara, a "vacuum" zone with a two-meter radius appeared, devoid of any plants, and the ground was pressed downward by the repulsive force, forming a shallow pit.
The repulsive force lasted for a moment before slowly dissipating.
Madara stood in the center of the shallow pit, his robes fluttering; his Rinnegan coldly scanned the repelled Adamantine Sealing Chains and the "diverted" Wood Release forest, finally landing on Uzumaki Yuji and Hashirama.
"Nice coordination," Madara's voice betrayed no emotion. "The warm-up... should end now."
At the moment this declaration fell, Uzumaki Yuji clearly saw four outlines, somewhere between reality and illusion, separating from Uchiha Madara's Main Body.
They were not physical entities, nor pure energy, but rather "existences" that resided in a special dimension, partially overlapping with the space here.
The four shadows floated quietly in various poses: one with arms crossed looking on coldly, one slightly crouched like a stalking leopard, and another standing sideways as if surveying the battlefield; though the images were blurred, as if viewed through a layer of frosted glass.
"That is..."
Yuji's pupils constricted sharply as a name flashed through his mind like lightning—a technique his father had described to him (while explaining the various abilities of the Rinnegan and analyzing past powerful enemies.
Limbo: Border Jail!
No mistake! This was Uchiha Madara's unique Rinnegan Dōjutsu.
"Limbo: Border Jail" allowed the user to create and control shadow Clones that existed in a special Extradimensional space called "Limbo."
When Madara only possessed one Rinnegan, he could produce one such shadow; but when he had both eyes and was at his Peak, he could summon up to four "Limbo" shadows simultaneously.
The terror of these shadows lay first in their absolute "concealment." For ordinary people and even most top-tier Ninjas, these shadows were invisible to the naked eye and could not be detected through conventional Chakra sensing, smell, hearing, or even intuition.
They were like true "ghosts," their attacks coming and going without a trace, enough to leave any opponent severely injured or even dead without knowing why.
The prerequisite to "see" these shadows was extremely harsh: one must also possess the Rinnegan to capture their figures through its unique visual dimension. If someone without a Rinnegan wanted to "sense" their specific locations, they would need to master "Six Paths Senjutsu," using the keen perception of Natural Energy to compensate for the lack of Rinnegan vision.
Even more despair-inducing was that, theoretically, the strength of these "Limbo" shadows was identical to Uchiha Madara's Main Body.
They possessed the same power, speed, combat techniques, and level of Ninjutsu proficiency as Madara.
This meant that once Madara used this Dōjutsu, he instantly transformed from a single terrifying enemy on the battlefield into a nightmare team of five who shared thoughts and coordinated perfectly—four of whom were in a state of "absolute invisibility."
In actual combat between opponents of similar strength, this was an incredibly cheap ability.
Of course, such a Heaven-Defying Dōjutsu was not without limitations.
Its greatest weakness was the strict upper limit on the shadows' manifestation time. They could not stay in the physical world indefinitely; after active for a period, they had to return to the "Limbo" dimension and rejoin the Main Body for "cooldown" and energy replenishment.
Only after an interval could Madara summon them again.
This "shadow departure" cooldown window was perhaps the only chance for an opponent to find a breathing space or counterattack when facing Limbo: Border Jail.
Furthermore, this Dōjutsu seemed deeply tied to the "originality" and "completeness" of the Rinnegan. It required the Rinnegan to be naturally awakened by the user through their own Bloodline and power, with both eyes present and in Peak condition.
Therefore, theoretically, those resurrected via Edo Tensei or others using these Rinnegan should not be able to use "Limbo: Border Jail."
This meant that Nagato, who once served as a host for the Rinnegan but did not awaken the eyes himself, could not access the exclusive Dōjutsu "Limbo: Border Jail," even if he could use other basic Rinnegan abilities.
But wasn't Madara's eye supposed to be in the Ninja World during this time period? Why was he able to use Limbo: Border Jail?
