Chapter 78 - The Revolt

Viewpoint: Hérèse

She's crazy.

I turned my attention back to my book, trying to pretend the threat had never existed. It was probably the best way to deal with someone like her: to absolutely deny her the satisfaction of seeing that her remarks had any effect on me.

Unfortunately, the rest of the class seemed to have decided to make my task much more difficult.

After classes, the atmosphere returned to normal.

The stares hadn't disappeared. On the contrary, they were becoming more and more numerous. Students I didn't even know started greeting me in the courtyard with a strange expression, as if they were expecting something from me.

I continued to ignore them.

– I have goosebumps

This story had reached a new level in just one day.

Especially Jack's unexpected arrival at the second break.

– (Did they agree on something or what?)

He had gone back to sit behind me; it was difficult to recognize the arrogant boy who had challenged me a few days before.

His face was covered in bruises, a dark mark ran down his cheek, and his swollen eyebrow gave him a much more stern expression than before. Even when he tried to keep his head held high, he would end up hiding in his hood at the slightest question; obviously, it wasn't my place to ask him "how."

When I turned around, his gaze met mine.

I simply continued my observation as if it were just another backdrop.

The two twins were the most insistent; it seemed they didn't quite understand "no".

They both exchanged glances in my direction.

It looks like you have some admirers, haha

– No.

Hahahahaa

I covered my lips with the back of my hand and murmured to myself.

Are you kidding me?

This day feels chaotic and fragmented; I feel lost in far too many ideas.

My heart acts up from time to time for no reason.

Maëva

– hmmm….

As I was saying, a few minutes later she looked like a flea. She was never in one place for more than 30 minutes, when she entered the room, she saw Jack and immediately turned her head towards me.

– He's back.

– (she asks the question to whom)

She bent down over him and observed Jack's face for a few seconds, her fingers gently touching his wounds.

– who put you in this lamentable state.

- stop… .

Jack murmured softly

- For what ?

He sighed before covering his head.

Why am I stuck in this musical?

Maëva sat down right next to him but kept turning her head towards me.

– You could at least pretend to be worried.

Why should I worry?

She remained silent for a few seconds.

– What an idiot, you should avenge your subordinate.

I did not reply.

That was precisely what I wanted to avoid.

Another fight.

I looked up at the sky and answered him firmly.

– No.

He gave a joyless laugh.

I hadn't asked for anything at all.

– (They've got the wrong person. You're the one who agreed to this ridiculous exchange)

What are you complaining about? Weren't you the one who asked me to save your skin?

I truly regret giving you so much freedom.
