The other end of the line went dead silent. The shouting and crashing abruptly stopped, as if someone had hit a pause button.
Jackson Kensington said through gritted teeth, "Naomi Kenway, why didn't you tell me sooner..."
He panted heavily, clearly incensed. "You idiot..."
Beside him, Lorraine Warren's voice turned panicked. "Jackson, let's talk this out. I know you're drunk, but you can't throw a drunken fit and curse at Naomi!"
She snatched the phone from Jackson Kensington. "Naomi, your dad's drunk. You and Ian can't take his ramblings to heart. He talks about you two every single day, hoping you'll come over for dinner. Naomi, you can't misunderstand him."
"They say people speak the truth when they're drunk."
Lorraine Warren's voice grew frantic. "That's not true at all! There's no scientific basis for that! It's not true!"
