Wei Jin agonized for three whole days before picking out a handful of names for Si Shuo, Wei Ce, and the others to choose from. He came up with options like Pengcheng, Kangjian, Yongwu, Shiyu, Chang'an, Huanyu, and Haohan—all of them chosen to sound as formidable as possible.
Si Shuo wrote down each character, and the family gathered around to look. In the end, they settled on the two characters for "Chang'an," since the meaning was auspicious and the name was simple and easy to say.
"From now on, Tuanzi will be called Wei Chang, and Yuanyuan will be called Wei An. Grandfather, Fathers, and Mothers, let us give our Blessing to our cubs for a hundred years, a hundred months, and a hundred days. May they have everlasting joy, everlasting happiness, and everlasting peace—a life of smooth sailing!"
Si Shuo chuckled and gently rubbed the two cubs' heads. Tuanzi and Yuanyuan tilted their heads back and nuzzled against her, bleating with delight.
