Nora Ainsworth quickly turned on the light. Just as she expected, the person who had snuck into her bedroom was none other than her step-brother, Nicholas Ainsworth.
"Entering your sister's bedroom in the middle of the night. What business could you possibly have?"
He turned to face her, his expression unreadable. "Where were you?"
Nora stood ramrod straight.
"Are you trying to control my freedom, Brother?"
Nicholas Ainsworth paced before her. "As your older brother, from the moment you came into this family, I was bound to carry some responsibility for you. I've given it some thought. I'm going to make sure you get home on time every night. Seeing as I live right across the hall, it's no trouble at all."
Nora flared up. "You don't need to meddle in my affairs. You should just worry about yourself, Brother. Why bother with me?"
