Then he turned and left.
Throughout it all, Warner hadn't made a sound.
When he returned to the swing set, Nora Ainsworth was already gone.
He went back to the room and found her cooking in the kitchen.
"I thought you'd be waiting for me in bed," he said with a light chuckle, leaning against the kitchen doorway.
Without turning her head, Nora Ainsworth replied, "That was the plan, but I'm starving. I need to refuel first to have enough energy, right?"
Once the meal was ready, the two of them sat across from each other.
"It's rare for everyone to have a free evening. Let's go play some ball tonight."
Nora didn't ask who "everyone" was. She didn't have to; she could already guess.
"I don't know how."
"Then it's settled. Go change your clothes in a bit." Quentin Grant's word was law.
Although Nora was a bit reluctant, she went along anyway.
The car drove to a well-known entertainment complex. The "ball" Quentin Grant had mentioned wasn't golf, but billiards.
