The next day, Aurora Sterling woke up early. Even so, when she opened her eyes, Damien Valerius's side of the bed was already empty. The sheets still held the man's lingering warmth; he must have left the room only a short while ago.
'Perhaps it was because Damien Valerius was beside her.' Aurora Sterling had slept exceptionally well for the past two nights—a deep, dreamless sleep. She felt a sense of security she had never known, not even back in her days with the organization.
After freshening up, she went downstairs to find Ms. Sutton had already prepared breakfast. "Miss Sterling, you're awake! Come and eat. You must have breakfast; it's good for your stomach!"
Aurora Sterling noticed that Ms. Sutton was particularly concerned about stomach health. 'It's probably because her husband died of stomach cancer.'
"Where is Mrs. Vaughn?" Aurora Sterling asked Ms. Sutton as she sat down.
