Vera Xavier knew with growing certainty that they were bound together for life. Her fear of him had faded as she got to know him better, and their time together was no longer as awkward as it had been at first.
Nathaniel Nathan's eyes sparkled with delight. He reached out, lifted her chin, and asked, "Are you sure?"
"I'm fine with it," Vera Xavier said softly. "But I still haven't met your parents. I don't know if they'll like me or if they'll oppose our marriage."
She was stating a simple fact. Without the approval of Nathaniel Nathan's parents, the marriage was still very much up in the air.
It wasn't that she minded making their engagement public, but that didn't mean they could do so just yet.
Nathaniel Nathan knew how his parents thought. His mother, in particular, was a stickler for social status. Announcing their marriage now would likely infuriate them.
