Before Holly Winslow could say a word, Anna Willow pulled her aside to "lecture" her. With the air of a seasoned veteran, she said with exasperation, "Holly, are you an idiot? Don't you know how scummy guys are these days? They stop cherishing you the moment they get you."
"You two aren't even married, so there's no security. What if your handsome 'cousin' just ups and leaves you? What will you do then?"
Hearing the word "scummy," Holly Winslow glanced at Mortimer Quincy. "..."
'She does have a point.'
But her situation with Mortimer Quincy was different. They had already been a married couple.
'Ahem, it's normal to do *that* kind of thing at our age. If we really waited until after the wedding, that rascal Mortimer Quincy would probably have gone 'limp' by then.'
She couldn't possibly tell Anna Willow such a fantastical story. If she did, Anna would probably just say, "Holly, you have a talent for writing novels. You could probably become a bestseller."
