Miles Xavier suddenly grabbed Joan Shaw's hand.
Joan was stunned. Thinking she must have misheard, she tilted her head closer. "What... did you say?"
'Did I just hear him say "get married"?' she thought. 'How is that possible? I've always known marrying him wouldn't be easy. I'd have to overcome countless obstacles, win over his two children, and become a perfect stepmother.'
"I said, marry me," Miles said, squeezing her hand tighter. Their ring fingers brushed against each other, and only then did Joan realize they were both wearing rings—identical, one-of-a-kind pink diamond rings.
"Marry you? Why?" Joan asked, dazed, a strained smile on her lips.
'It's like Caesar and Catherine's arrival has turned him into a completely different person.'
"Because time is running out. We can't drag this on any longer. Before the company crisis forces me to compromise with them, let's make this official."
