Full of anticipation, Claire Sinclair walked downstairs, thinking he had some good news for her. But just as she reached his office door, she saw a high-society woman standing inside.
For a moment, Claire wanted nothing more than to turn around and leave, pretending she hadn't seen a thing.
Aiden Howkins suddenly spoke up. "Young Master Quincy, Mrs. Quincy, the Young Madam is here."
The two he addressed looked toward the door in unison.
Claire had no choice but to brace herself and walk in. "Mr. Quincy, did you need me for something?"
If she hadn't been slapped, she would have politely called the woman "Mrs. Quincy" or "Ms. Quincy." As it was, she pretended the woman was nothing but air, seeing nothing.
Mrs. Quincy stared at Claire with an odd expression. Her lips moved, but she seemed at a loss for words.
Adrian was the first to break the silence. "Claire, my mother has something to discuss with you."
"Here?" Claire raised an eyebrow. 'This is his office, after all.'
