Chapter 10 - Chapter9: Assault of the outpost.

Neo-Lagos shivered under a sky torn between green and purple. The glitching light bathed the city in fractured neon, reflecting off shattered streets and shattered lives alike. From the Outpost, Kael Orion watched the horizon, the anomaly inside him pulsing violently.

"They're coming," Sera whispered, her eyes scanning the blinking holographic monitors. Every red dot represented a Dominion patrol converging, mechanized walkers advancing, drones swarming in perfect formation. "All of them."

Kael's jaw tightened. "OMNIS knows the network now. Every ally, every hacker, every gang leader we've contacted—it's all on the line. They won't stop until we're erased."

Lyra, the cybernetic commander of the Outpost, approached. "Our defenses are ready. But this… this is unlike anything we've faced. The anomaly within you will guide us, Kael—but the sheer scale…" She trailed off, gesturing to the city map. Dominion forces were converging on multiple fronts, moving with deadly precision.

Kael's eyes flicked across the holographic map. The anomaly pulsed, showing him probability threads, predicting the movements of every Dominion unit. "Then we divide them. Hit them where they're weakest. Draw them into the traps we've set."

Sera activated the pulse shield generators along the Outpost's perimeter. Sparks from the activating systems lit the room. "Then let's show OMNIS they can't calculate everything."

The assault began with a thunderous roar. From the sky, waves of drones descended, scanning for heat signatures. Below, mechanized walkers crushed the streets, augmented soldiers flowing like rivers of metal and flesh. The city trembled with every step.

Kael moved first, leaping onto the outer wall of the Outpost. Plasma cutter humming, he struck the first wave of drones with precise arcs of blue light. Sparks flew, metal shrieking, circuits frying. Sera covered him, pulse grenades creating chaos among the approaching enforcers.

From above, walkers fired energy cannons. Kael rolled across the rooftop, slicing through cables and antennae, redirecting energy blasts harmlessly into the air. The anomaly guided every movement, predicting the walkers' hydraulics and the soldiers' reflexes.

Inside the Outpost, Lyra coordinated the rebels. Hackers rerouted turrets to target Dominion units, while gang allies blocked corridors, forcing enemies into kill zones. The city outside became a battlefield, streets erupting in fire and sparks as walkers collided with barricades, drones collided midair, and plasma bolts shredded metal and concrete.

Kael's eyes narrowed on a group of elite Dominion enforcers—the anomaly hunters, cybernetically enhanced soldiers trained to track anomalies like him. Their optics glowed crimson, weapons humming with energy.

He leapt into action, plasma cutter slashing through their defenses. Sparks and energy arcs danced across the battlefield as Kael anticipated every move, dodging strikes and disabling weapons with surgical precision. Sera fired grenades, knocking enforcers off balance. Even Lyra's team contributed, hacking drone control systems and rerouting walkers' targeting protocols.

One of the elite enforcers lunged at Kael with blinding speed. The anomaly pulsed violently, probability threads spinning faster than thought. Kael sidestepped, countered, and drove the plasma cutter into the soldier's arm joint. Sparks flew, circuits fried, and the enforcer fell, twitching on the ground.

The walkers crashed into barricades outside, some immobilized by hacked turrets, others disabled by Kael's precise strikes. Dominion drones, once coordinated, now faltered, disrupted by the chaos the rebels had created.

But the battle was far from over. From the sky, a new Dominion unit descended—a massive, black-and-silver mech unlike any seen before. Its optics scanned the Outpost, recognizing Kael. The anomaly inside him surged violently. This was a direct threat from OMNIS, an experiment designed specifically to counter him.

Kael didn't hesitate. Plasma cutter in hand, he sprinted toward the mech, leaping across rooftops, dodging laser fire. Sparks flew as metal clashed with metal. The mech lashed out, but Kael anticipated its every movement, striking joints and critical systems. Sera and the rebels provided cover, creating openings and distractions.

Finally, Kael landed on the mech's shoulder. With a swift strike, he drove the plasma cutter into its core system. Sparks and energy arcs exploded, circuits frying. The mech collapsed, metal crashing into the Outpost's defenses, leaving a cloud of smoke and debris.

Kael landed beside Sera, breathing hard. "It's not over," he said, eyes scanning the horizon. "OMNIS won't stop. This… this was just a warning."

Lyra nodded, surveying the aftermath. "We held them off. But next time… they'll come harder. And bigger."

Kael looked toward the fractured sky, threads of probability swirling in his vision. The anomaly pulsed like a living entity. "Let them come. Neo-Lagos is awake now… and we are ready."

The city trembled beneath the storm of neon and chaos, the Outpost standing as a beacon of resistance. And Kael Orion, the anomaly, felt the pulse of something greater—a war that had only just begun.
