With the last item from the long list of medicine finally checked off, Noah Gavin flexed his back muscles and sighed with satisfaction after feeling the cracking in his lower back.
"That's it." he groaned, now rotating his shoulders, "the last medicines on the list."
He raised the plastic sack and beamed a smile at it, before finally letting it hang on his fingers at his side.
"See ya next time, Noah." the supplier waved.
Noah looked back and returned the wave, "No problem. Just keep it coming with those discounts."
The supplier laughed, shaking his head a little as he watched Noah leave.
"That guy should really find a better job." he mouthed.
Noah, unaware of what the supplier said, just kept walking on his way to the hospital. He graduated with honors and every certificate necessary to become a certified doctor but all those remained somewhere in his cheap apartment, collecting dust for who knows how long.
He should be working with the best doctors yet, instead, he was stuck working in the pharmacy section where his only job was to restock and sell medicine according to the prescription of other doctors.
Noah paused when he saw someone who looked familiar.
"Isn't that... Bianca's mother?"
He watched intently, slowly closing the distance between him and the woman whose eyes were fixed on her phone screen.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" the man selling fruits yelled, right before Noah could bump into his carefully sorted watermelons.
Noah apologized with a bow, "Oh! So sorry sir."
When he passed the man and looked up again, the woman was no longer in her spot. She was walking across the road already, still on her phone.
Noah's eyes widened when he noticed a cat speeding towards the woman and he let go of the medicine, dashing forward and tackling her to the side seconds before the car could hit her.
However, her forehead badly scrapped on the tarred floor and she began to bleed.
"You imbecile!" she screamed in-between tears.
"Just look what you did to me! Someone, call the ambulance!" she screamed again, "I'm going to make you pay for this! Oh my God!"
Noah couldn't believe his ears. He put his own life at risk to save his girlfriend's mother and this is what he gets? "I just saved your life. There was a car. It was going to hit you."
"Pfft! Hit me? Hit meee?!" she scoffed, "Do you know who I am? That car would have stopped even if it were going five hundred miles per hour!"
"Oh my gosh, I'm going to faint." she called out, dramatically touching the back of her palm to her forehead.
The ambulance showed up and took the woman away while Noah, still in disbelief, returned to pick up the items he had dropped for her.
While he picked up the spilled medicine, he wondered what his girlfriend would think of her mother's behavior once she learned what happened.
Soon enough, Noah reached the hospital and found some people gathered at the entrance of a patient's room.
"Hey. What's going on?" he asked one of the onlookers.
"It's Mrs Katherine Hudson of Hudson Enterprises. They say some guy tackled her on the street."
Before Noah could react, the people blocking the door cleared and a young lady stepped out looking beautiful with her skin as radiant as the sun.
That young lady was Noah's girlfriend and she did not look happy.
"Noah!" she yelled, glaring daggers at him.
"My love?" he responded, causing some people to look at him with questioning eyes.
Bianca looked visibly embarrassed. Their relationship had been a secret for the past two years.
He had agreed to keep it a secret because she told him that she wasn't ready to talk to her parents about him yet since he hadn't achieved the heights he was meant to climb, but Noah kept giving hints at the worst moment..
In truth, Noah was only a temporary thing for her. He gives her business advice that actually helps her impress her father enough to consider her his heir other than her cousin while she lets him have the illusion of dating a goddess such as herself.
Someone among the other workers laughed, "Noah. Don't tell me you've lost your senses just from laying your eyes on this beauty. How dare you call her that?"
"Yeah. All he does is sell medicine and he thinks he's up to her level?"
"Noah." a nurse chimed in, "I know you've lost all hope of becoming something meaningful in life but looking for a sugar mommy is way too low. Even for you."
Bianca stormed forward and gave Noah a tight slap. His face snapped to the side and everyone went silent.
"Don't ever call me that again. Know your place, Noah." she warned, earning a shocked look from Noah, who's cheek still stung.
"Bianca..." he muttered, only to receive a second slap from her.
"That's Miss Hudson to you." she spat.
Noah's jaw clenched. Even as he wasn't some big shot doctor, he at least deserved some respect. Especially as she was his girlfriend.
"Miss Hudson." he managed to say, "why are you treating me this way?"
Bianca scoffed, looking at him in disbelief. "Are you serious right now? You're asking me what you did?"
To her, that question was like someone spat in her drink then asked her what they did to upset her.
"Fine. If you want to play dumb then I'll tell you." she continued. "Noah. Why would you, of all people, tackle my mother in the middle of the road and give her such an injury?"
"If I didn't do that, she'd be dead right now, Miss Hudson."
