Chapter 40 - Last Sunset, Last Day

Thicker.

Charged.

"Tomorrow," she said quietly.

"Yes."

That single word carried too much weight.

She leaned slightly against the railing. He stood close—closer than before.

Not touching.

But almost.

A gust of wind brushed past them. She lost her balance just slightly.

His hand caught her wrist.

Warm.

Firm.

He didn't let go immediately.

Her pulse reacted instantly.

Their eyes locked.

No teasing now.

No distractions.

Just the raw awareness of each other.

For a moment, his intensity slipped past its usual restraint.

Just slightly.

A flicker of something possessive.

Something claiming.

His thumb brushed against her wrist before he released her.

Small.

Accidental.

Yet deliberate enough.

Ji-Ah's breath felt uneven.

She was drawn to him.

Undeniably.

And that realization frightened her.

Because she could feel how deep it could go.

"I'm drawn…" her thoughts whispered.

"…and yet afraid."

The sun finally disappeared below the horizon.

Darkness settled softly around them.

But the tension remained.

The island had ended.

The vacation would be over by morning.

Yet both of them knew—

Whatever had started here…

Would not end here.
