Chapter 1 - Rainy day

"What hour is it?"

Half awake, I quietly let out a groan looking around my dimly lit bedroom for any semblance of where my phone could be. I had left it charging under my pillow before I slept, how is it that it disappeared when I woke up? At this point my phone moves on it's own whenever I wake up from sleeping.

My room seems darker than usual, as if someone had put a gray tint in front of my eyes before I had woken up. My arm, moving slowly as if my body is trying to catch up from the initiall inertia, still thinking I was asleep.

Finally after a few seconds I felt a slight bump on the corner of my bed that I have accustomed to being my cell phone. I took it out under the stacks of comfortable blankets I had placed and pressed the button on the side of my phone, waiting for the screen to show me the time. My phone lit up, blinding me for a good few seconds until the sleek black font was readable.

"8:23am"

It doesn't feel like it's morning right now. The windows were muddied with a dark gray tint and the atmosphere felt more humid than usual. The little amount of sunlight that did pass through the bedroom window showed the messy room that had visible futile attempts to keep it organized. This wasn't strange since this is the room of a twenty-four year old dude. The most personality this bedroom had was a singular poster I put up that I got for free from going to the cinemas a year ago. Funny thing is, I haven't watched the movie that that poster is supposed to be from. Scanning around my room, I decide to lay on my bed for a bit longer. "Standing up right now feels like a chore, might as well use this time to read a comic." I thought to myself, scrolling through a comic website on my phone to pass the morning before I had to do anything important today.

It was an ordinary hobby of mine, one that many people have. Any time I had free time I would use a big chunk of that time to read novels on my phone. However, I had a specific fondness for one novel. It was a discreet slice-of-life novel that had been running for a few months now, but the popularity seems to have been stagnant for as long as I have been reading it. I didn't mind it much really, since all I wanted was something to distract me from stressing over my real world responsibilities.

Just as I was reading the last few paragraphs of the latest published chapter I receive a familiar notification. It was from a friend of mine asking if I would hangout with him later today. I responded by saying I'd be down to meetup later and asking for a specific time. "4pm?" I asked. He responded quickly after, Saying that he had no issue with it. His place has always been the more welcoming and interesting of the two. That's why we only ask the time, because we'd always end up going to his place. After a small conversation with him, I went back to finishing the last chapter of the novel I was reading before he had messaged me in the first place. It had a melancholic cliffhanger on the protagonist's struggles with himself. Their was enough information meticulously held to make you still curious for more but enough crumbs to make you immersed with the story.

I turned off my phone and layed flat on my bed. Having zero motivation to do anything right now. It was a shame that I couldn't stay like this indefinitely. Time doesn't stop for anyone so after minutes of self monologuing I finally mustered up the will power to get up from my comfy bed. The first thing I decided to do the second I got up from my bed was to make myself a morning cup of coffee. Nothing was really that far away in my home, of course that's because I live in a one bedroom apartment. But it still felt nice that everything was a few steps away from me. Waiting for my kettle to boil the water I had just filled it with, I Walked to my balcony. I leaned forward against the metal railing and I took a deep breath. All I could think of was how tranquil the atmosphere was due to the rain. This was the reason I loved rainy days so much. "Everything feels awfully peaceful." I was right to think that, usually I would be busy with mountains of work, sitting on my computer typing away for hours that seemed to last with no end, or I would be having some sort of stressfull deadline to meet. But today was my day off, plus my workload has been low as of this month and there were no deadlines to be losing sleep for.

After that I took a shower, stepping out I looked at my reflection on the vanity mirror. Was my hair always this long? It wasn't necesarrily a stylistic choice from my end, it was more laziness than anything. I couldn't be bothered to go to some barber shop and spend an hour waiting just so they call me to wait another hour for them to cut my hair while trying to avoid akward eye contact with the person cutting my hair. Let alone the uncomfortable feeling you get from the cut hair follicles falling into your clothing, feeling them hit the side of your skin everytime you move your body in any way. The long sleek brown hair didn't look bad on me, matter of fact, It complimented my hazel brown eyes pretty well, so I'm not complaining.

The morning after that was pretty quiet, nothing interesting happened, I played some videogames to pass the time until the clock struck a quarter past three, put whatever was closest in my closet which were a t-shirt with a cool minimalist design of bats on the back of it, baggy pants held up by a leather belt and some worn out skate shoes. I really do need to shop for more clothes, or not.

It doesn't really matter does it, I'm just going to his place anyways.
