Chapter 1 - Episode 1: Crossroads

This mid-December chill howled through the empty streets of New Orleans, a slim, wool wrapped elven figure emerged from the bend of the snowy streets, quivering slightly even under all those layers of warmth. Cold air seeping through them like rain seeping through cracked barren soil. Hands shoved tightly in those stuffy pockets of his trench coat, the boy's stature became slightly visible under the dim street light. A White cloud trailed out of his mouth, winter's awfully bad this year…

Suddenly,

A ringing sound almost shrieked into the cold atmosphere. His phone buzzed to life with an unknown number flashing up on the glazed but cracked screen.

Elvin: *takes the phone out with one shivering hand, blowing warmth into his free hand* Oh boy...

Hello?

The voice that followed was a batter of tension, fear and excitement. The elf's brows knit together like a perfectly woven collar.. A familiar but rugged voice

Unknown: Hey.. Elvin? You home yet?

Elvin: No? Why? I was turning the bend to my place

Trevor: Listen, I need your help *voice slightly glitches over phone*

Elvin: Hello? Trevor?

Trevor: Yeah, yeah, I can hear you.. Just listen to me and stop wherever you are. I have sent you something to take care of, it's very alive, very dangerous and CAN bite you.

Elvin: *Face blank as an unused canvas* Wrong number..

Trevor: Tch. Elvin, I'm serious. You'll find a.. thing.. yea a thing.. in front of your house..just.. just take him in for this once.. please..

Elvin: Are you crazy?*Brushing off of a nest of snowflakes from his puffed up blonde hair*

Trevor: This is urgent. I'm— *glitching sounds again*

.

.

In trouble.. take care— *voice glitches again*

Elvin: *hangs up**looks at the phone screen*...Calls in an unknown number like a crook and expects me to take a creep into my house… *sighs, the day's exhaustion, the favour, and the cold finally taking a toll on him*

As he neared his house, the streetlight right opposite to his front door flickered to life.. brighter than the others, as if waiting for the delicate pointed eared creature to arrive.

He stopped in his tracks.. as he saw a man? Most probably. Wrapped in a black hoodie and trousers, laid on the pavement.. He rarely saw homeless folks around this area much.. though he felt he should rather just get inside and relax with some hot coffee, his curiosity and Trevor's uncanny phone call got the better of him. The man's face looked pale, swallowed entirely by the furry hood of his jacket. Even though he was sprawled on the ground, his height easily exceeded 6 feet. A sudden cold wind brushed past his spine.. an actual gust— or fear?

His emerald doe-eyes skim the gravely quiet surrounding for a while before going back to that unknown bloodless face.

Elvin: *crouches down**his hands already moving towards the man's fur hood, as if having a mind of their own. Meanwhile his heart thumped like that of a sweat sleek stallion*

The touch was all he needed, the man's body was cold as an icicle. His fingers leaped back to his own chest, panting slightly, strangely perspiring in that weather. "Is he dead?"... His hands shot back to his phone in his left trench coat pocket, frantically searching for the one phone number.

*Calling*

Trevor: Elvin?

Elvin: *tears on the verge of slipping down his warm cheeks* B-Bro.. He's cold..too cold.. he's dead *shaken from both inside and outside*

Trevor: Elvin.. Stop shaking like a damn rabbit..

That's a vampire you're talking about.. Vampire's ARE cold..

Elvin: …

Trevor: Dude?

Elvin: You're…You're telling me…I'm sitting beside a blood sucking demon?

Trevor: *sighs through the phone call* Don't panic. He won't bite. Most importantly he's out cold. I wouldn't want my fire brigade dead.

Elvin: *leaves a breath that even he didn't even realise he was holding*

Trevor: *the gruff, thick voice continued* had left my phone at home so I had to call you from Bronwen's cell. It was urgent

Elvin: How'd I take care of him? He's a vampire.. I'm an elf.. I'm—

Trevor: I know. He only feeds on rabbits and small rodents..

Elvin: *face becomes blank again* So apparently I have to adopt a fucking vampire now? What else, feed my crocs to a hellhound?? Because hellhounds apparently—

Trevor: *hangs up*

Elvin: Dammit!! *Quickly muffles himself, his slight yelling sounded like a Banshi in the empty streets of his neighbourhood, many already under the quilts and blankets*
