Chapter 5 - Chapter 5. Why the Doctor Helicopter Came Down

The helicopter was always above.

Song Jaemin liked that fact.

From above, you could see.

Roads.Buildings.Traffic lights.And people.

Most of all—

nothing was blocked.

"Patient status?"

"Penetrating abdominal wound. Shock progressing."

Even beneath the roar of the propellers,Jaemin's voice did not waver.

A doctor helicopter.

The last card in emergency medicine.

When the hospital cannot come, the sky does.

He had flown hundreds of times.

And hundreds of times,he had saved lives.

The media called him:

The Surgeon from the Sky.

Jaemin did not like the nickname.

It sounded too heroic.

Reality was never that bright.

That day was no different.

Landing request.Hospital rooftop.

Then the answer came from control.

"Landing denied."

"Why?"

"Rooftop construction."

Jaemin was silent for a moment.

"The patient is in shock," he said."Surgery must begin within five minutes."

"We'll look for another hospital."

Another hospital.

The phrase was too familiar.

The helicopter circled overhead.

Fuel dropped.

So did the patient's blood pressure.

"We need to land somewhere."

"A nearby open lot—"

"Not permitted."

"Regulations—"

Jaemin laughed.

"Regulations?"

He looked out the window.

The city was dense.

People everywhere.

Nowhere to land.

So many people—

and nowhere to save one.

In the end, they changed hospitals.

Then changed again.

The patient went into cardiac arrestthe moment they landed.

Jaemin did everything he couldin the operating room.

But the ending did not change.

"Good work."

Someone said it out of habit.

Jaemin nodded.

As he removed his surgical gown,he thought:

The helicopter is fast. The doctor is ready.

But the city is not.

That night,Jaemin stayed alone at the helipad.

The propellers were still.Only the wind moved.

He looked down at the ground below.

It was high.

Too high.

From there,

he could no longer see people.

A few days later,Jaemin submitted his resignation.

"Doctor, why so suddenly—?"

He did not smile.

"There are more peopleI fail to savethan people I save from above."

After that day,

Song Jaemin never boarded the helicopter again.

Instead,

he began to look at the ground.

Roads.Industrial zones.Back alleys behind hospitals.

And one night—

near a concert venue where he had once descended—

he heard sirens.

A crowd.

Fireworks.

Endless cheers.

From inside his car,Jaemin watched the scene from afar.

And thought:

This is a place a helicopter cannot land.

A few days later,he saw the concert on the news.

"Record-breaking K-pop concert, flawless production."

In the corner of the screen,a small caption passed by.

Emergency evacuation during performance.

Jaemin set the remote down.

And for the first time,

he remembered the director's name.

Kang Doyoon.

Same city.Same time.

One man had come down from above.

The other was falling below.

They had not met yet.

But the city was already preparingto bring them together again.
