Chapter 13 - An Impression of Lipstick

Zaun

Shimmer Lab Factory #5.

Ekko stopped his board, got dragged by her longer, showed her how to stop it, and they stopped without crashing.

Barely. "Happy name day to me." He looked at the armed force that was still guarding the whole thing. "There's no way they are letting me walk in there that easy."

"No, you are right about that, but I came prepared," Jinx said with her accent. She was taking off her outfit and setting it down. She had on a Piltie looking dress hiding under that outfit.

No, that wasn't Piltie. That was. "What. Are you wearing?"

"Evening dress. It'll have to do." She grabbed a comb out of one of the raggedy pockets of the outfit. "The double color will clash a little, but everything else will do."

What. The. Hell?

Jinx was wearing a tight hugging sequin turquoise dress that didn't even have straps, and it had a slit on the side. Where the hell- what the- how?!

He tried not to stare at her clothes, but staring at her face wasn't helping either with everything she was doing.

Her mouth was holding bobby pins as she wrapped her long bangs with her hands into her hair, placing it up in a makeshift bun. She stuck the pins up, one by one inside, and then she took lipstick and pursed her lips together putting it on quickly, while she was also digging for a splash of makeup. She was quick but not too messy. When she was done, she grabbed some kind of card and a white piece of a napkin for her mouth, leaving an impression of the lipstick.

She took her mouth off it and it fell to the ground. "Just wait for my lead. They should have your ID, but if you've just been using a hoverboard and attacking, it's doubtful you can start this. Got it. Ekko? Ekko? Buster?"

"Uh. Yeah." Ekko watched her approach, but picked up the napkin with the lipstick on it. He didn't know what to make of any of it. He kept watch though. He'd be ready if it went south at any minute. Be ready to fight. Be on alert. Where the hell did she-stop! Why was she wearing that underneath? What kind of mercenary wears that underneath? No, just concentrate.

Jinx held out a handkerchief toward them, catching their attention, standing on her tippy toes and using the accent again. "Hello? I am here for Mister Laurent!"

He watched two of them approach her with their weapons down. Careful, Jinx.

"Mister Laurent?" One of them asked her, looking at her up and down which they shouldn't have been doing. "ID?"

She handed them an ID.

"The owner hasn't shown up yet. There's no reason to be here."

"He has," she corrected him. "Because of lack of communication on his, and your parts, you have been firing at him, and he's been attacking his own facility."

He looked surprised. "Oh? We've been shooting at the owner?" He looked stressed.

"Oh, it's a simple mistake. I'm sure the owner won't care that much," she teased as she waved him over. "He's going to need his official ID's. He'll also give you your next set of instructions."

"Yes, Ma'am."

Ekko approached by her side and glared at the guard. They were checking something out. Then, they gave him several ID badges. He took them. They all had his picture and the word Ekko on them. They also got him some masses of keys to each door in there.

"Anything else, Sir?"

"Mm, I don't know, Mr. Ekko, is there something you would like to say?"

"Yeah!" He flipped them off and then spread his arms out. "Get everybody off of my property now!"

"Maybe he was a little mad," Jinx said toward them. "You are retired now, if you stay any longer, you don't get paid anymore and Mr. Laurent will get mad. No one wants that. Yes, thank you."

It took a little while, but eventually all of the security walked off. Without payment they were all getting out.

As they left, Jinx kept being nice. "Yes, thanks for your help. Yes. Thanks. Anatoly appreciated it. Oh no, thank you."

"Move it faster, Slugs!" He was not in as happy of a mood. These idiots had his name and his likeness and in all of the fighting, they never noticed it was him? Bull! They had to know they were fighting the owner! He only used the mask now when someone was entering close to their Firelight domain. To add insult to injury, some of them were enjoying the view too much as they left too. Why the hell is she wearing that thing? "Eyes in front and get out!" Ugh.

For now, he wanted to get his factory. He opened the front door while he managed their boards. "Okay, Jinx, where do we start?" They should check each area to make sure a guard wasn't hiding around.

"I need to get back out there to get my outfit first."

"Very good idea." He watched over her while she moved back outward to go collect her things. When she came back, she grabbed the bobby pins out and let her hair tumble back into its thick bang again up front. A little more wild and out of place. More like Jinx. Then she pulled her outfit that he decorated for her back on.

Then she just had to ask, "So, it's better than Vi's gift, right?"

"Jinx. You gave me the rights to a full blown shimmer factory that is in Zaun," he said. "Yes. You beat her. Also? She was already out of the running when she brought a rat down. You won when you helped with that."

Jinx just smirked. "Good. I knew I beat Vi."

Sometimes with this girl. "Where do we start in here?"

"I don't know. I think . . . second for . . . stuff?"

He turned and looked toward her. A little funky. "Okay, we'll try the second."

There was tons of equipment to test with, but this stuff hadn't been used in years and he didn't know the conditions of any of it.

He would be getting rid of all of that shimmer soon, that he didn't want anything to do with. What he wanted, was everything else in the lab. What was good, what was bad, what was salvagable to take home or to build with.

Mylo: You're such a Jinx.

PJ looked around. Mmm. Gonna need to get to Shields soon. Probably should have grabbed it before she came. It had been a tough week, and she knew she wasn't doing well. Gotta tell Ekko to look at my blood.

Mylo: There's no way you'll get this right. You're a waste of space. You wouldn't get the testing right. You don't even have a real finger to test.

"I have some."

Mylo: Where's your middle finger?

"Somebody already got it."

Mylo: Yeah, and you know her name.

"Got what? Jinx, why are you spinning in a chair like that?"

"Somebody naaaamed Caitlyn." Somebody happy with her sister now.

Mylo: Caitlyn took everything because you deserve nothing. You're a mess up. You're just a huge error.

Rude. "She didn't take all my fingers."

"What are you talking about, Jinx?"

"What already? What do I need to give a finger for?" She stopped turning, and looked at him. "What?!" She said loudly. "Geez, is it really that big of a deal?"

Who cared. Who needed fingers? She didn't need fingers, she needed more. Right. Right. Testing. She went over and grabbed a syringe. She needed blood, she could get blood without a finger. No problem. She was literally drawing her own blood. She brought the container of blood back to where she had been. "There. What next?"

"I don't want that."

She is acting different again. Her actions. Her eyes. She wasn't looking good at all. Everything about her, she was becoming less of the Jinx Ekko had seen yesterday and today. This looked like . . . "Oh. Silco's Jinx."

"Silco's Jinx?" she was confused. "That doesn't make any sense," she called him out, using motions in her hands to talk. "You've gotta have a Silco to be a Silco's Jinx. I'm not Silco's Jinx. I wish I was Silco's Jinx." She got out of the chair. "Silco was a hell of a lot better than where I am now!" She started to bang on the wall. "Silco let me create! Silco let me be in control! I said what I did and when I did it!" She started grabbing her head.

He got up from the chair and stared at her. The real Jinx was finally showing herself. Knew she'd pop up soon. In what world would I get Powder for very long?

No. No, he couldn't be like that. That Ekko grew up with that Powder over by the bar. It wasn't . . . I didn't even deserve that Powder, I never should have kissed her, I am messing up now because of that! All those little memories between the other Powder and the other Ekko, he didn't have those. That's what they built on.

My world. This is what I have. A Powder-Jinx hybrid. He had no right to be bitter about it, this was who his universe's Jinx had been. He'd seen snippets of her in between her blasting and destruction, fighting back to protect the shimmer cargo.

He always had to move, get out, and get others to safety as fast as possible. This time, he could stay there and see it. She didn't have any guns or bombs to hurt anyone with. She wasn't breaking anything either. So, Ekko just watched her, spinning more out of control.

"Oh no. Oh, no, no, no." She checked around herself. "Oh no. Shield."

Shield. "Will she be able to help?" Could that woman Shield help or was she still spinning out of control, searching for something to grasp to?

"I can't forget it. I can't forget." She was crying over something. "Shields has it, she came down here just to give it, and I forgot it. No." She looked straight at him. "I need Shields. I need her. I'd give anything for her, anything, anything."

Yeah, but on a hoverboard? "I can't get Shields here, she'll need a board."

"I need her. I need her!" she yelled at him. "I messed up, I know that I messed up soo bad, but I need her!"

"Okay." A normie riding a hoverboard? But. If she can help. "I'll try."
