Chapter 2 - The One Between

Preface

The aliens communicate both telepathically and verbally. They also project their feelings/emotions and the specific meaning about what it is they are communicating about, so that there is no misunderstanding when they are communicating.

Communication in Italic: telepathy

Communication in bold: the feeling of their emotions (how the individual feels when speaking is also felt by the listener), clarifying the specific meaning when verbally communicating

Communication in italicbold: both telepathy and the projection of the speaker's emotions to the listener, so that they can feel and understand what is being said

The Glossary of the Alien Language is located at the end of this chapter. Words with a capitalized first letter refer to the language of the aliens. The words in this chapter appear in order in the glossary.

"Through our eyes, the Universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the Universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the Universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence."

- Alan Wilson Watts

The One Between

"What will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?"

Saint Mark the Disciple

(Revised Standard Version Updated Edition Bible, The New Testament: Mark 8:36, First Century BCE)

A very tall figure of slim build and broad shoulders floats in front of a long rectangular window. It stares down at the Big Blue planet it has been studying for some time. The invisible ship, undetected by Earth's technology, is hovering above the planet, avoiding the multitude of satellites surrounding it. A dim blue light illuminates and slowly flashes on the dark grayish-black walls and floors inside the ship, revealing and irradiating a figure. The rays of the yellow dwarf further shine on the figure's ethereal body, causing it to shimmer with the colors of stardust of pink, blue, and magenta with a hint of yellow and sea green. Its form appears as if a nebula has assumed an embodied form, betraying an androgynous face reflecting from the window. A white bodysuit conforms to its body as though it were skin. The suit covers its whole back and wraps around the waist and downwards, covering its ethereal legs and ending at its ankles, its feet bare. The suit reveals the chest with a flaming Light at the center. It observes the breathtaking view of the planet. The One Between can see the continents of North America and South America with the Atlantic Ocean spreading out towards the east, caressing the continents of Europe and Africa. The swirling of Earth's white clouds and the far side of the moon can be seen at a distance. The parent star shines brightly as it illuminates across the horizon of the magnificent planet. A shining and glowing ethereal figure, graced in similar attire, slowly floats up next to The One Between as he joins his Pupil to observe the beauty before them. They both behold the planet in silence, being present in the moment.

The Mentor breaks the silence. "What are you thinking about?"

"What it's like to be them... To be Human," The One Between answers calmly, not looking away from the majestic vista.

The Mentor places a reassuring hand upon The One Between's shoulder in support, projecting his Love towards Them in assurance that They are not alone in this. He communicates his emotions by projecting his energy to comfort his Partner, letting Them know that he is here to protect and Guide Them through all of it. This exchange of communication brings peace to The One Between. The Mentor can sense the curiosity from his Pupil and his equal. His friend and companion. One of his many Siblings and his Family. His Teacher and Guide. The One Between saved him and helped bring back his Light. He knows that this mission will prove to be extremely difficult for his Pupil, even though he cannot himself imagine what it will be like; the experience of being and living like a Human on its planet.

"Are you ready?"The Mentor asks as he removes his hand from The One Between's shoulder.

"Yes," comes the relaxed reply, followed by a calm mental sigh as The One Between mentally prepares for what is to happen next. "...Let us begin."

The Mentor and The One Between dematerialize, their atoms and particles slowly disaggregating. An electrical current spreads out in a static fizzle through space. Remnants of dust sparkle and disappear from the cold and empty interior of the ship. The Mentor and The One Between's bodies become a bright light of energetic colors as they both materialize outside the craft, which reflects the eternity of space on its exterior panels. The two float between the hull and the Earth.

"When you are ready, tell me: what do you feel about this planet?" The Mentor asks in anticipation for what is to come.

The One Between takes a mental deep breath as it steadies itself for what will come next. Letting down its energy Shield, it is brutally engulfed with the energy of the planet and all its life forms in full force. Screaming. The One Between experiences the agonizing Pain and suffering, the despair of Earth and her inhabitants. The Pain and suffering that would make any sentient want to cease existing, perhaps even for existence itself to cease. The Mentor, floating not far from his Pupil, watches on in silence, knowing what to expect, and it Pains him to watch his Partner in such a state. But this is his Pupil's duty, and They must continue the mission. The One Between tries to contain the powerful energy of the planet, hitting Them all at once. It feels everything. In tears, crying out in agony. It grabs its head into its hands and focuses on bringing up its energy Shield to separate itself from the planet's emanations of Pain. The cries of Earth's life forms suddenly stop. Gasping, of a sort, as if to breathe in space. It takes another mental deep breath to ground itself and regain composure.

The One Between returns to its usual tranquility and focuses its attention on Their Mentor with concern and sympathy. "...This place..." They telepathically and verbally speak to Their Mentor, sharing the Pain it felt.

The Mentor floats next to Them, close to Their side. He can feel what The One Between feels and thinks without words being exchanged. He feels the energizing emotions of his Pupil seep into his Being. This exchange is natural to their species, a complex language that words cannot describe. The One Between is still silent as it returns its gaze upon the blue planet. The Mentor cannot read minds unless given permission, and he suddenly finds himself unable to read the mind of his Pupil. He is worried about The One Between becoming a Human. Worried about what his Pupil will experience on this planet. But most of all, he is worried about what his Pupil will become after They finish this journey on Earth and The War with The Realm of No Light.

The One Between turns to look at its Mentor. "I must go. I will meet with you again at The Council." The Mentor quietly nods in acknowledgement as he watches his Pupil disappear into another dimension. The Mentor returns his gaze to the planet below. It is time to return to work and gather information.

~~~~~
The One Between materializes in the dimension of The Realm of Dreams to meet with the Human and his son. They manifest in the image of a Human, though taller than the average specimen, to make the duo feel comfortable. At The Mentor's suggestion, it takes the form of a man with fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes, as this is deemed beneficial to Their meeting with the leader of this pair. Their species cannot reveal the nature of their origin and reality to Humanity in their mere three-dimensional existence lest it kill them with exposure to the aliens' dimension. The Human psyche cannot absorb such Knowledge. The One Between is a member of a species that hails from The Realm of Light and The Realm of No Light. When interacting with Humans in Dreams and countless Realms, it has no desire to allow Humanity to know what They truly are. According to the Laws, aliens cannot expose themselves to the Humans on Earth. They know the outcome that such a revelation would have on the behavior of Humans as a species. The Mentor has described Humans as dangerous and uncivilized. He further emphasized how the species has evolved to being ignorant and stupid. The aliens known as The Beings of Light and The Beings of No Light, do not see the Humans as their equals. For The One Between, it perceives things differently. It acknowledges all species as equals. After all, we're all made of stardust.
Wearing a three-piece suit of white and shades of blue to conform to the Humans' Dream, The One Between makes Their way to an immense and opulent castle. The majesty of the dwelling elicits only indifference from The One Between, who is more focused on the denizens themselves. As They approach the entrance, there stands a middle-aged man dressed in a sharp all-black business suit, his plain red necktie tucked into his black silk pattern vest. Beside him, his son is similarly attired but with a patterned blue necktie outside his vest. His youth is still radiant despite his adulthood. The two men are impatiently waiting for their visitor. Both Humans appear as average, pale-skinned males with smooth, beardless faces. The appearances of Humans in their Dreams would at times take the form of their preference, but more often they would assume their likeness during their waking hours.
The father, excited to see the alien, enthusiastically greets the visitor. The One Between, already aware of who this man is, dispenses with formalities and follows him and his son into the castle. The One Between politely listens to the man— a 'Businessman,' the Human excitedly claims, while his son trails in silence, taking the mental notes of a protégé. The Humans and The One Between pass through the large, wide halls and the many rooms within the magnificent structure. A gorgeous sarcophagus of glistening gold and marble cradles elegant furniture and crystal chandeliers, art, and extravagant tapestries adorning stone walls. The heads of various earthly life forms serve as trophies and walls of books of the Earth's boundless knowledge, rounding out the effect. The Businessman leads the way, The One Between walking between him and his son.
A tour of the castle ensues, replete with talk about plans for the future, a future that The Businessman plans to turn into reality. "I'm so very pleased to have you here. As you well know, I'm searching for allies to help me take over and rule Earth and bring about peace and stability."
The One Between continues to listen in silence, observing the surroundings around Them, "It will be great! I want to create a beautiful world where everyone can flourish. A true Golden Age! A beautiful existence for our species. Sharing faith and honor in humanity. As a trillionaire, I can make this real, given my experience in ruling a country. I am known as a great man of my time, a man of the people."
The Businessman pauses to offer a flute of champagne to The One Between, who raises its hand to politely refuse the offer. The son graciously accepts the glass instead and sips the pink bubbly fluid while his father turns to take a glass for himself from his servant's silver tray. The Businessman then turns on his heel without acknowledging the servant's existence. The One Between notices the indifference but stays silent.
"My planet is dying, and we need to find a way to evolve into something better, stronger, and without flaw. Something more efficient. Give humanity a fighting chance as we work towards improving the human body and cleansing us of all imperfections and stupidity."
The Businessman pauses to take a drink from his crystal receptacle to irrigate his pitch to his prospective future ally in the war to come.
"And if you can't save Earth, then you lot can lead humanity into space to a new planet in my expedition to occupy and settle! A new planet – maybe Mars, for me to rule and for humanity to start over. As their Savior I will shepherd my people in this manifest destiny. In exchange, you have complete access to what's left of our resources on Earth and an ample supply of energy, and I guarantee that I can provide it to you."
The One Between's brows furrow when They hear these words and listen to his thoughts, which leave no doubt of his intentions. The man pauses to take a sip of his beverage, not noticing the alien's physical response.
He continues expounding his vision. "I must make a huge change in how we research and improve the health and lives of the people to save everyone from their own demise. It's for the betterment of humanity and the purity of its people. And with your help, my alien friends, we can improve our environment. Share your Knowledge! Help us evolve as a species and become something greater than ourselves!"
The One Between is well aware of where this conversation is going as The Businessman gleefully continues his ramble, "With your technology, I will enforce my will against anyone who defies me as I crush my enemies who dare to challenge my quest to save my people!"
The One Between reads the mind of this charismatic man who is unwittingly projecting his thoughts and grows increasingly disturbed by what it discovers from The Businessman's hidden intentions with the proposed alliance between the Humans and the aliens. On the surface, The Businessman covets world domination—a vulgar but standard wish among people like him—but at a deeper level, he desires something altogether more insidious, something that makes The One Between almost stagger backwards in revulsion.
"Help us become a utopia, and I'll promise you something well worth your time, my friend."
The One Between takes a deep breath as They patiently continue listening to this man's spiel, knowing that he offers nothing of interest. The Businessman raises his hands as his son and his guest step out into the other side of the castle and onto an open bartizan. He clinks glasses with his son in cheers as he takes another drink. It continues to listen in silent horror, observing Their surroundings outside the castle walls. They wince in amusement at the man's use of the term "aliens". Never mind. What Humans think of Them and how they describe the aliens are of no significance. Many of its kind are overtly disdainful of the "alien" label.
Beneath the bartizan, the sun's glare reveals a large open space within the castle walls, and here stands an army large enough to start a war. The One Between looks on at the many bodies of Humans dressed in armor and uniform, brandishing weapons of various kinds. The Businessman giddily presents his army to The One Between, anticipates his visitor's approving response, or better still, awe. The One Between only observes in expressionless silence. They knew a war was coming. Indeed, The One Between was sent here by The Council precisely to dissuade this Human and his son from following through with their schemes.
"Do you like it? What you see here?" The Businessman asks, his arms extending in exaggerated posture, his palms open as if offering a Human sacrifice.
He gazes at his guest to receive thanks for this dowry. But to his dismay, the alien does not respond. "Do you like my army!? It's amazing, isn't it!? How can we not win with this crew? We've got it made, baby!"
The One Between looks down and sees the army raising their weapons and shouting praises to The Businessman, their king. All of them, to the last man and woman, yelling their unyielding devotion. The army worships the trillionaire high atop his throne. His army thirsts for the blood of whatever or whoever he sics them on. But The One Between senses nothing praiseworthy in this menagerie of humanity and metal and plastic; only the ugly stench of violence, anger, and hate. Only the very same negative energy wafting from The Businessman and his son. This Human's dream of the future is worthless, and it disgusts Them. The One Between says nothing as it looks on silently. Their expression is calm and unreadable. The silence bothers The Businessman as he impatiently awaits the alien's affirmation. Flustered, he suddenly feels a billow of anger and annoyance, and is only just able to suppress the urge to yell at the alien's rudeness.
"What's this fucker's problem?" The Businessman almost blurts out to his son, but is beaten to the punch by the alien.
It calmly speaks as it turns to look at Their host. "Let us continue, then. Show me the rest of your lovely home and tell me all about the remainder of your plans for this future."
The One Between walks past The Businessman and his nervous son, noting the father's annoyance, and leads the way again. The Humans and the alien leave the bartizan and walk down a winding stone stairway into the bailey. The Humans and The One Between step into the bailey of perfectly trimmed hedges and rows of flowers and stones, creating a mosaic; a symbol of The Businessman recognizable to Humans.
"It's a brilliant plan, you must agree. We can build a new world, a world in my image! A world without any wars because I will be the warlord of the battle to end all wars! With your support, we are unstoppable! With your technology, my intelligence, and money, we can do anything!"
The One Between is having quite enough of this Human's ideas and dreads the prospect of another pointless war. The war that this lunatic is demanding is a different kind of war that Humans have never been involved in during all their existence. The Humans call this war 'World War III' or 'The War of the World'; while other Humans' religious beliefs know it as 'The End Times'. The One Between and its species are already in a War. Now the Humans want to drag the aliens into the Human war in the future that this Businessman plans to bring to fruition, except it hasn't happened yet in the Human timeline on Earth where he is from. The aliens have already traveled back to the past in the Humans' timeline to study and research the Earth and its life forms for eons. The One Between has been studying Humans long before it was asked to live on Earth as a Human under the pleading of its Family and The Council in The Realm of Light. The Council implored The One Between to help find a solution to end this War with The Realm of No Light and the Humans' war in the future They are presently involved in. The One Between serves as a diplomat of peace sent to achieve a balance. The Beings of Light and No Light cannot become Human, nor can they live on Earth as one. It is against their Laws. The Law dictates that the Beings cannot live on other planets as a member of any species native to those worlds, nor can they Possess a life form or occupy a Vessel of any kind except a Sentinel. But The One Between is different. The One Between is the only exception to the rule. This is why it is known as 'The One Between' among its Brethren and The Council. At present, if this meeting does not end in the aliens' favor and there are no other possibilities, then the only option is to live on Earth as a Human in a Vessel if Their negotiations with The Businessman fail. They are trying to caution against his future to this Human in his Dream, to not go on the warpath. The One Between is in this Businessman's Dream in an attempt to understand his intentions on why he waged this war and to dissuade him from following through, while respecting his autonomy.
The entourage makes its way down a stone path through a large garden, decorated by strategically placed statues and sculptures. This being inside The Businessman's Dream, the garden has details that would make you think you were in his waking world on Earth.
The Businessman finally breaks the awkward silence, first with a sigh and then with the brass tacks. "So you're on my side, yeah? You'll help me do this thing?"
By now, The One Between is bored with The Businessman's demented and predictable ramblings of how he would conquer the world like so many others before and after him. The One Between calls these types of Humans... 'a man of death'. The Businessman pauses to turn and face the alien, now some feet away, to see if it's still listening to him. He watches The One Between lean Their hand onto a spherical stone made of blue marble with green, yellow, and red precious stones to represent the lands of the seven continents on Earth. The large sphere sits on top of a black marble pedestal, firmly in place to hold the weight of the precious planet. To his surprise, he sees the sphere falter and fall onto the ground in a loud thud as soon as the alien leans on it with its hand. This scares The Businessman and his son as they witness the amazing strength of this Being. The son drops his crystal champagne glass in disbelief. The feeling fades as the Humans witness what they believe to be their future, to create a perfect Human race in their image; after all, it appears as a white man. The alien's appearance is proof that he and his followers are The Chosen Ones. The One Between is a bit surprised as it realizes that the stone sphere is separate from its pedestal. Apologizing to Their hosts, The One Between effortlessly lifts the large and heavy stone sphere with both hands and gently places it atop the pedestal.
The Businessman smiles, convinced of his plans with these new allies, as he extends his hand to the alien to finalize the agreement.
"No," The One Between gently replies.
"What!? What do you mean 'No'? You're not going to turn this down!" Exasperated, the man throws down the crystal champagne glass and takes a step forward.
"What you are doing is wrong," comes The One Between's firm rebuke.
And then, the man's own rebuke, incandescent with rage. "You dare judge me!? You're in the wrong here! You! Fucking rejecting this perfect offer of an alliance where we're both fucking guaranteed to win and to save this cock-sucking planet and all the cunts who live on it!"
"I am not judging you. But hear this, a warning," The One Between shoots back, now suddenly, before the belligerent Human host and his son in the blink of an eye. These Humans realize in fear how fast the alien moves from the stone globe ornament to them from ten feet away without making a sound. The alien towers over them as the father and son take a few steps back, intimidated again by the alien's presence despite appearing as a Human man.
"Do not do this. You will regret this. Trust me, you will not win," The One Between warns, gazing down at them.
Their eyes meet, and the aggression and bloodlust of the shorter bipeds are replaced with fear and doubt. The alien's expression, grave as a heart attack, is unmistakable beneath even its perfect Human features. For a few moments, the Humans are silent, cowed by this formidable entity. But this suddenly passes, as The One Between senses The Businessman's anger once again radiating from his body.
"No! You'll regret this!" he yells in frustration, with a pointed finger at the alien.
The One Between senses the intention behind his words and acknowledges that there is someone else They must pay a visit to, but later. The son remains quiet, sharing his father's feelings as he tucks his bright blue tie into his silk black vest.
"You will fail. And you will lose everything dear to you. This is the Truth," The One Between calmly pleads to him.
Now, The Businessman fidgets with his tie and vest. The One Between is already aware of his other alliances, and with this thought, the alien is annoyed by further knowing the outcome of Their meeting. The Businessman angrily leaves the pristine garden in a huff, his son tagging closely behind him. The One Between remains behind, silently and disappointedly watching the Humans' receding backs. The Businessman calls for his private vehicle by cellphone. A deep black Rolls Royce appears and pulls up in the circular driveway. The duo enters the behemoth without paying further mind to the alien. The One Between sighs deeply as it watches the car drive off, realizing Their failure with the Human trillionaire. Fleetingly, They think of the one it must now hastily establish contact with. But first: an audience with The Council. They disappear and instantly travel to its dimension in The Realm of Light to report Their diplomatic failure.
~~~~~

The One Between returns to The Realm of Light and reunites with Their Mentor at the entrance of The Council room, relieved that he is by Their side again. The large golden doors, illuminated by starlight, shine brighter. The doors change in shimmering silver as they both approach, opening inward as The One Between is summoned into the Council Chambers. Each member is slowly revealed in turn. The One Between and its Mentor float into the large space, contained not by walls or ceilings, but by bright light and a sense of peace. Stars within the nebula can still be seen through the chamber. All the participants in the meeting warmly greet each other telepathically as The One Between and The Mentor pause in front of The Council members. Each of their eminences is suspended in a glittering field of stardust. The Council patiently waits for The One Between to speak of its deliberations with The Businessman and his son in The Realm of Dreams.

"I want to apologize to all of you here for failing to convince these Humans. Inevitably, their planet has already an alliance with the enemy we are currently fighting." The One Between telepathically projects the meaning of its words regarding the future war of the Humans in which the Beings' from The Realm of No Light are intervening.

Its species has been fighting in The War for eons against its opposites from the Dark Realm. This unfortunate interaction affirms that the Humans have already made contact with the "aliens" before the war begins by making an alliance with The Realm of No Light.

The Council silently processes the information as The One Between continues Their report. "I have confirmed that the Humans are getting support from The Realm of No Light in what I have discerned from The Businessman and his son. Despite me rejecting his offer, his thoughts have confirmed the beginning of what is to come on his planet. Their war is unfortunately set in motion." The One Between now awaits The Council's decision.

One of The Council members stands directly across from The One Between behind a long white and silver table and speaks. "Then we have no choice and we must continue according to our plans. You will occupy a Vessel on Earth. You are the only one who can do this. You. You must make The Final Judgement."

The One Between glances at its Mentor for strength and reassurance. Love and encouragement flow from The Mentor, its Doubts fade as They embrace Their Mentor's loving energy. They take a moment to consider the gravity of this task before responding.

"It is an honor to live a Human lifetime on their native planet. I will account for my decisions carefully and strategize for a solution."

The Council nods in acknowledgment, projecting waves of pure energy that consume The One Between's body with unconditional Love and Hope. It absorbs the immense energy of Love, feeling it purify its very Being, accepting the blessings from its Family. The Council assures Them that it will be protected and to trust Their Circle. The Council and their species from The Realm of Light support The One Between's mission and endeavors.

The Commander of War floats forward. "I will continue to aid and work with you during this mission and to inform you of all that has passed during the Humans' future war while you're away performing your other duties and missions." This is the strong and powerful voice of a woman, confirming her duties to The One Between as planned beforehand during the Human war.

The One Between's attention focuses on The Realm of Light's Commander of War, nodding in acknowledgement. They bow its head in unison with The Mentor to The Council and The Commander of War in respect of their time. As they both glide across the floorless chambers, The One Between speaks to Their Mentor in a private telepathic channel.

"There is someone we need to visit." They both vanish and teleport to the edges of The Realm of No Light.

~~~~~
A bright, limitless, empty, white space appears as The One Between, and The Mentor instantly arrive at their destination. Both The Mentor and The One Between descend from above and gently land on the white space that makes up The Line. They walk towards the edges of their Realm, meeting the pitch black in The Realm of No Light. The Realm before The One Between and The Mentor is a wall of blackness, a void that stretches horizontally and extends vertically beyond what the eyes can see. Within another dimension, the Realm is a void of darkness, ash, and smoke throughout the entirety of space that constitutes it. The bright light of The Line dims and exposes parts of the darkness near The Line, revealing swirling black smoke and black ice on the ground, with ash falling from above. The One Between telepathically summons The Lord of The Realm of No Light when They arrive at The Line.
A disembodied voice booms in the empty space. "Have you come to announce your defeat?"
A shadowy figure materializes from the black smoke of the infinite Darkness. He stands naked at the barrier of The Line, where no light shines.
The One Between replies as it walks closer to The Line, Their Mentor following close behind. "No, I've come to bring an offering of peace," Its thoughts tell the dark figure of a peace between both Humans and The Realm of No Light.
The One Between, acting as an ambassador, greets The Lord of No Light with a warm smile, happy to see him after such a long hiatus. The Mentor observes his dark counterpart with distrust and resentment.
"You are wasting your time," The Lord growls at The One Between and Their Mentor.
"Brother, this War needs to end between our Realms. This is futile," The One Between pleads, concern somehow written on Their face.
Such is Their Hope that Their Brother will finally see reason, while aware that The Lightless Lord and their Brethren are revealing themselves to the Humans dimension and thereby breaking The Law for ill Intentions.
"Is it? Why are you wasting my time summoning me here? Tell me the real reason you are here at my gate," he demands with unconcealed annoyance.
"Why are you manipulating the Humans in a senseless war they have created against each other that will rapidly lead to their extinction? What will you gain from this? I want to understand. What is it that you want!?"
The Lightless Lord stares in silence as a grin slowly forms on his obsidian face that sparkles with the dust of dead and black stars. "You know what I want," he growls under his breath while telepathically speaking against his Sibling's feigning ignorance.
"I want to hear you say it," The One Between responds with an intense stare that matches Their Brother's.
An animalistic chuckle bellows from Their Brother's chest in response, his predictable games annoying The Mentor.
"Join me in The Realm of No Light." The Lightless Lord extends his hand to The One Between while The Mentor's golden starlit eyes widen. "Rule with me at my side. I will offer up the Truth that all of you are forbidden to know." He knows what They desire.
The Lord of No Light speaks to The One Between in a private telepathic conversation. "The Truth I give you will grant you great Power."
"The Forbidden Knowledge of Chaos." The Mentor and Their Brother hear The One Between's thoughts, colored with temptation.
"No! Don't listen to this. He is trying to manipulate you!"
The Mentor interjects, suppressing his anger at the absurdity as he pulls his Pupil's shoulder away from The Line to safeguard Them from their Brother. The Realm of No Light is forbidden to all unless invited. Both The Mentor and The One Between know what their Brother's Intentions are, but with a different understanding because of what The Mentor knows about his Brother that The One Between does not. It hesitates to answer. It is anathema to The One Between to join The Realm of No Light, though They have desired the Forbidden Knowledge long after Their species' primordial Beginning. Their Brother's past attempts to tempt Them with Power long, long ago, before The War ever began, have fallen on deaf ears from The One Between. Until now. To access The Forbidden Knowledge of Chaos one must be invited by a Being of No Light. The Lord of No Light is the only one who can open the gateway to another dimension where the Forbidden Knowledge is housed. The other option is that you must yourself be a Being of No Light to access the Knowledge of Chaos under The Lord of No Light's permission. They ponder the invitation of this unimaginable opportunity to Possess a No Light Being that would allow Them access to the Forbidden Knowledge of Chaos. However, the Power The Brother offers Them is still of little interest to The One Between.
"We are the same, you and I. Are we not?" The Lord of No Light reminds his Siblings as he smiles wickedly at The Mentor, taunting him to cause The Mentor to respond with anger in his eyes.
"Yes, we are equals, you and I," The One Between confirms, remembering this Absolute Truth. "If I am to agree to this, then I must Possess a Vessel. But since there is no such thing in The Realm of No Light, then I must Possess the body of a Conscious Being."
A silent pause descends in the empty space between nothingness that the three occupy. The One Between telepathically conveys the discomfort of the prospect of having to Possess another. They would never Possess another Conscious life form. This is a personal rule to itself, because Their morality is inseparable from Their True identity.
The Brother smiles, extending his arm in a welcoming gesture, "You are welcome to enter my Realm indefinitely, in exchange that I Possess you. That is The Pact."
He clarifies his meaning on the word "indefinitely," where he grants The One Between permission to access The Realm of No Light for eternity until all of existence ends. This also allows The One Between access to The Forbidden Knowledge of Chaos without permission when The Pact is fulfilled, based on their terms and agreements. This message catches The One Between's attention in surprise. This is a very gracious offer coming from The Lord of No Light, who wouldn't be this generous.
The Mentor knows where this is going and abruptly intervenes. "Enough! This is not the answer!"
The Mentor grabs The One Between's arm and pulls Them away from The Line and tries to remove his Pupil from this insanity and leave this place of nothingness. The One Between promptly removes Their arm from The Mentor's hold and turns to face him.
''It's another possibility to find a solution to end The War, and this could lead to ending the Human war, too. Isn't that why we're here? This is an opportunity for me to help. It is my duty, is it not?" They plead, trying to convince him.
Their Brother glares at his Siblings with his pitch black eyes, growing impatient as he waits for the bickering to cease.
The One Between continues its dialogue telepathically for only Their Mentor to hear. "I'm the one who is going to make the Final Judgement after my journey on Earth as a Human. But most importantly, I can finally learn all of our Brother's Intentions and desires and those from the Lightless Realm; why Humans and the No Light Beings are entering into an alliance."
The Mentor strains with the internal conflict between his emotions and logic as he returns his gaze to his Brother. The One Between resumes Their telepathic overtures. "I can understand the root of their problems and grievances and find a common ground towards peace. A solution to end this madness. The Forbidden Knowledge of Chaos will give me further insight into the Humans."
The Mentor listens in silence as he carefully reflects on his Pupil's words. But The One Between has already made Their decision and breaks the silence, turning to face The Lord of Darkness.
"My condition is that I can leave The Realm of No Light as I wish and continue my missions and duties outside the Realm." It telepathically clarifies its meaning to include all other Realms and the Realms The Lord of No Light rules and Earth before the war in the future.
The One Between walks slowly towards The Line. "You will Possess me, but you cannot leave my body outside of your Realm while I perform my duties and missions."
"The Shield Guardians of Light will be allowed in The Realm of No Light to safeguard my Consciousness while containing all that Possesses me from within your Realm and other Realms and dimensions."
In Earth's past, The Brother has no reign. In Earth's future, he rules with the cult when summoned. The Mentor watches in disapproval, feeling helpless in knowing that he can't force his Pupil to listen to him when They have made up Their mind.
"There will be a doorway in The Realm of No Light to cross over between Realms and dimensions. This doorway is protected and controlled by me."
The Brother grins with delight. "I accept your stipulations and will add mine. No one else can cross The Line to enter The Realm of No Light to assist you, and that includes The Mentor. Our frigid and disappointing Brother cannot come to help and protect you."
Smiling, he turns his gaze at The Mentor, as if to challenge him to a duel, knowing that his Brother, The Mentor, brims with anger. The Mentor holds himself back from punching his Brother's prideful face.
The One Between closes the space between Them and The Lord of No Light with only the barrier of the Line separating them both. "I accept."
The One Between raises its hand through the barrier of The Line. Its arm burns with the accompaniment of sizzling sounds, but They do not flinch. They await the reciprocity of The Lord of No Light's hand. They watch him raise his hand and firmly hold Their forearm in a spartan handshake. The One Between tightens Their grip on Their Brother, and he happily accepts the embrace, reciprocating the reassuring and immobilizing squeeze.
The One Between telepathically shares its boundaries within The Pact. "The Pact must remain unbroken until I've gathered all the information I need to understand the Nature of Humans and the Beings of No Light, completely."
Squeezing the forearm, he announces, "I accept the boundaries."
To The One Between's surprise, The Lord of No Light aggressively pulls Their arm further through the barrier and clutches tightly into a fist, The Brother pulls their intertwined hands closer to him. Angrily, The Mentor moves to protect Them but They share its emotions to assure him that it's alright and to stay where he is. The Brother and The One Between's faces are close enough to kiss; the sliver of space between them is occupied by the thin membrane of the barrier near the edges of where The Line meets between their Realms. The Brother grins as he continues to force his dark energy from his body into his Sibling's. He feels his Sibling's pure energy slowly seep into his own Being. The bright golden energy of Light travels up his arm and pools in a swirling manner within the middle of his chest in a glowing dance of colors bearing the likeness of two galaxies colliding and being slowly sucked into the Black Hole of The Lord of No Light. To his twisted delight, the Lightless Lord watches as his own corrupt energy slithers into his Sibling's body and engulfs Their brilliant Light, which begins to slowly dim, a dull red coalescing with the pale yellow of a star on the edge of destruction. Though the corrupt energy is Powerful, his Sibling still clings to the life of Their Light, the Darkness not potent enough to extinguish it. At least not yet. The Line separating them hums and sizzles with the energy forming The Pact, both their hands locked in their tight embrace. They can both feel The Pact slowly intertwining in their bodies, culminating in a final consummation of entropy. The Mentor looks on at the unholy union in frustration, feeling the rage and Fear arriving in waves, hiding his internal emotions from both The Brother and The One Between.
With a determined glare, The Lord of No Light focuses on his Siblings' stare of outward agony that actually conceals an underlying calm from knowing that it's not being harmed, only invaded. Its brows furrow from feeling the intense reaction of negative and positive energy colliding inside Them. The dark energy travels through The One Between's body of Light, migrating like a snake toward the ends of Their limbs and consuming Them. They begin to feel sluggish and tired from the forceful transfer of dark energy and dark matter, which are like vicious animals ravaging through Their form from the inside out. The flaming brilliance from Their chest is slowly fading into Darkness before Their Brother's eyes. The One Between's expression is twisted up as if in pain. But The One Between feels no pain. Its nebula-like eyes, emanating iridescent shades of blue and pink starlight, begin to change and are finally overcome by a cloud of pitch black. The One Between stares intensely back at the beautiful eyes that remind Them of a stellar black hole. The exchange of their energies to finalize The Pact feels like eternity. Both of them feel like nothing else exists except them. The Mentor watches helplessly, restraining himself from breaking this corrupt union. His rage and the strong desire to beat the shit out of his Brother grow stronger. The Brother hisses in pleasure, feeling the euphoria rising and consuming his body from his Sibling's energy, mixing with his.
"You feel nice," The Brother says telepathically for only his Sibling to hear.
"Can't say the same for me," They menacingly retort.
The One Between grimaces as They continue to feel the pressure of its Brother's energy invading Their Being, making Them feel weak. He continues to suck away Their life force, siphoning it into the Black Hole of his heart. The One Between's starlit body begins to fade into the onyx color of a black star as They try to suppress the incoming corruption. This broadens the Brother's smile, observing how his Sibling struggles with the exchange of their opposite energies. The One Between and The Mentor notice their Brother's sharp canines and fangs peering between his black lips in enjoyment.
"The Pact will begin once I've settled on Earth as a Human. When it's time, I will accept it willingly," The One Between announces at the last leg of the energy exchange.
"Looking forward to it," The Lord of No Light gleefully replies, squeezing his Sibling's hand still harder to affirm his Power and dominance.
The Lord of No Light absorbs the last bit of his counterpart's energy and releases his hold. The One Between floats back to distance itself from the edge of The Line and the dark Realm. The Mentor holds Them in comfort and concern and looks up to glare at his Brother. The Brother senses his Rage. The Lord of No Light still stands close to the barrier, smirking in triumph. The Dark Lord grins at his silently fuming Brother. He vanishes into the dark grey mist of his Realm. The One Between looks at the hand that made The Pact. Their hands and arms feel foreign to Them. The sparkling black color of its Brother's essence slowly fades from Their chest and down Their arms and hands. The Mentor watches in discomfort as the changes on his Pupil's body dissipate. Its body reverts to its normal hue of starlight flecked with gold and silver, a spectrum of colors swirling gently throughout its ethereal mass. While The Pupil seems alright for now, The Mentor cannot hide his rage. He has no Doubt that the Dark Lord has more in store for The One Between than They can Hope to prepare for. But worse still, The Mentor can't do anything to stop what has just been put in motion.
Glossary of the Alien Language
1 Light represents the Beings of Light's life force as a flaming light located in the middle of their chest. It is the heart of the Beings of Light to represent a Soul (See Soul).
2 Pupil/Student follows their Mentor (See Mentor/Teacher) in their guidance and learns, studies, and researches the many different subjects expected of them to learn and understand the world around them. Students must abide by what their Mentor tells them and have them do, and take their studies seriously. Students must obey their Mentor and follow their directions and instructions in their learning.
3 Mentor(s)/Teacher guides their Pupil/Student in their life (See Pupil). The lessons are individualized, specifically based on the Student's role and the function assumed in a given action or process. Oftentimes, the Mentor uses unconventional teaching methods. This also entails the strengths and weaknesses of the Pupil/Student to overcome challenges and improve skills. Mentors continue to teach and educate their Student(s) in all subjects the Mentor deems necessary: mathematics; science; history; humanities; physics, biology; economics; culture; astronomy; combat/fighting; etc., for their Student(s) to grow in their Knowledge (See Knowledge) and understanding of the world around them. Mentors are responsible for their Pupil(s) and guide their Students to prepare them for their missions and their journey in life (i.e. in realms; dimensions; past; present; future). Normally, this also entails the Pupil learning on their own without the Mentor's guidance.
4 Love is unconditional and compassionate. It is the purest form of love and is incorruptible. It is an Absolute Truth and a Powerful weapon (See The Absolute Truth; See Power). It is one of the Powers to defeat Darkness (See Darkness).
5 Partner/Lover can be both a Being of Light or No Light. It represents companionship and an intimate Connection of Being One with another. The relationship is Connected by the Love (See The Connection; See Love) for each other, or a relationship of Friendship and Family, or for others they interact with that they respect and/or work with. Beings of Light and No Light can have intimate relationships with other life forms they can Connect to. They all fall under LGBTQIA and have queer relationships; all can be either monogamous or polyamorous in their relationships.
6 Spirit Guide/Guide/Guardian is a Being of Light or No Light who Guides the life forms they interact and communicate with. A Guide is connected and follows a Being of Light or No Light and/or other life forms to protect them from harm. 10 Shield is an energy/force-like barrier that shields the body and mind from harm. Beings of Light and No Light have this ability naturally, but vary in how strongly they can wield it. It can also be used to protect others.
11 Pain is experiencing great suffering and despair that would make someone want to cease to exist. Pain can also be used as a weapon if one has the Power (See Power) to wield it.
12 The War is a long, ongoing war between the Realms of Light and No Light outside the third dimension and lasting for eons. The War was started by The Brother from The Realm of No Light.
13 The Realm of Dreams (and Nightmares) is the realm that all life forms experience inside nightmares and dreams. All life forms have access to this realm because all life forms dream. Beings of Light and No Light and all other life forms can participate in combat/spars in this realm against each other and/or interact with each other.
14 Knowledge is facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation and gathering of information. The body of truths or facts accumulated in the course of time by the Beings of Light and No Light. Something that is or may be known or the sum of what is known by the Beings of Light and No Light. Humans and other life forms are barred from learning and knowing this Knowledge unless the Beings of Light and No Light choose to share their Knowledge. This also refers to The Akashic Records (See The Akashic Records) of all the Knowledge stored there. Moreover, Knowledge is neither good nor bad, which pertains to how it is used.
15 The Law is the law of the Beings of Light and No Light. All Beings from The Realm of Light and No Light are to abide by it to keep the balance in the Universe and to prevent it from unraveling into chaos. The Absolute Truth and Truth are connected (See The Absolute Truth; See Truth). The Law creates and establishes the rules that are there for the safety of all life forms and creates a balance of unity. The Law cannot be changed or modified and is final. If the Beings of Light and No Light violate a Law, it will result in banishment or a punishment that fits the crime, depending on the gravity of the Law that is broken and is considered serious/egregious. If it's serious, then that Being is "dead" to them, and the Being of Light is Othered (See The Other/Othered) and is no longer part of the Group (See Group/Circle/Web/Faction) (is ostracized/cast out), and the Being will have to rebuild their life again.
16 Dreams/Nightmares is a life form(s) or the individual themselves dream that they are experiencing or being present in or sharing a dream with another life form(s) dream (See The Realm of Dreams (and Nightmares)).
17 The war/Human war started by humans against each other in a class, cultural, racial, and environmental resource and technological race. A global war (WWIII) to survive extinction on a dying planet. The aliens (Beings of The Realm of No Light and the Beings of Light) are involved with humans as enemies or allies.
18 Vessel is the body of an empty shell of a species/life form that The One Between occupies to experience a species' life cycle/lifetime.
19 Sentinel is similar to a Vessel (See Vessel) except that its Powers (See Power)and skills are not limited, and Beings of Light and No Light can use one while appearing as a species other than their own. All Beings of Light and No Light can become a 'Sentinel' when on a foreign planet pretending or passing as a member of a native species, though this is permitted only under certain circumstances.
20 Brethren/Sibling(s)/Brother(s)/Sister(s) represent all Beings of Light and No Light as siblings to each other. They are separated by The Line (See The Line) between their respective Realms: The Realm of Light and The Realm of No Light. All Beings of Light and No Light are Connected (See The Connection) and related to each other like Family without biological relation. Incest is not part of their language, and therefore can be intimate Partners/Lovers (See Partner/Lover) with each other.
21 Doubt is tied to Fear and is the deep feeling of one's true ability, identity, and anxieties of oneself, manifesting as uncertainty that all life forms experience. Doubt creates a strong weakness in the individual and can hinder them in every aspect to which can be detrimental and dangerous, and lead to guaranteed failure. Doubts are like lies to oneself. It challenges your Instinct and hinders you from acting on Instinct. Instinct can overcome Doubt if the Beings of Light and No Light have a strong will and know themselves completely.
22 Hope is a powerful weapon like Love (See Love) and is one of the things that survives a terrible event and experience. It is one of the powers to defeat darkness and is an Absolute Truth (See The Absolute Truth). Hope is incorruptible.
23 Group/Circle/Web/Faction is a collective of individual Beings who work together toward a common goal. All of their successes and failures are shared. There are heavy personal responsibilities and penalties for mistakes, but at the same time, unless it's egregious, the entire Group they're affiliated with takes the hit with the Being(s) who made the mistake(s). There's a massive social pressure to do well for their Circle. The Beings of Light and No Lights' culture believes in the idea that going against the moral law, which does not support the whole Faction and the individual Groups, is nonexistent (i.e., a Being doing whatever they want outside their Web that doesn't support the Circle and more broadly among the Beings).
24 The Line is a constant barrier between The Realm of Light and The Realm of No Light. No life form can cross The Line without the invitation from the Beings from their respective Realm. It exists in the space between nothingness.
25 Intention means the life form is consciously aware and competent about their intention of what it's doing without mental illnesses in the brain/Consciousness/mind (e.g., Alzheimer's; pathological liars; psychopaths/sociopaths; down syndrome; tourette's syndrome; bipolar disorder; narcissists; depression; CPTSD/PTSD; etc.) (See Consciousness).
26 Truth/True is a fact and can only change with new evidence/fact(s), and/or the deepest identity of oneself or others. It can also mean Knowledge or your personal truth. This can also refer to The Absolute Truth (See The Absolute Truth).
27 Power is a very powerful weapon (indeed, the ultimate power) and can be difficult to wield and control depending on who holds it. It can be used to harm and Rape others (See Rape) or help others. Power can be chaos or can bring balance, depending on how it's used. Power is mostly used as a weapon in The Realm of No Light, but for the Beings of The Realm of Light, it's mostly used for good and to maintain the balance of the universe. Beings of Light use Power on others only after being given consent or to force a life form to carry out an action that the Beings of Light believe is necessary for the good of that life form. They do not abuse Power to harm and control others like the Beings of No Light. Too much Power leads to destruction, chaos, and imbalance when used irresponsibly.
28 Possess/Possession is forbidden by the Beings of Light and No Light. The only exception for the Beings of No Light to possess another life form is when they're given consent. Beings of Light are not allowed to possess any life form. The only Being that can possess other life forms without consent is The One Between. When The One Between possesses another life form, they meld with it and take on their host's personality, behaviors, feel what they feel, and can know the life form's memories and what they are thinking. In so doing, they become almost one with the body they inhabit and its consciousness and take on its identity. They can also read minds outside of the other life form's body without consent if necessary, or only when the other life form projects what they are thinking and is given permission to read their minds. They prefer to read minds with the consent of the other life form, because invading the life form to control the mind is considered Rape (See Rape).
29 The Absolute Truth is many truths in one that cannot change and is eternal, representing The Universe and The Laws.
30 The Pact is an energy exchange and binding contract between two Beings (both Beings of Light and No Light). It can only be broken when released by both parties who made The Pact, or a Healer severs the binding contract, or The Pact has been fulfilled.
31 Shield Guardian/Shield/Guardian is a protector and/or guard of a life form, place, and/or thing. They can be warriors/soldiers in combat to protect a place and/or life forms and/or battle in a war. It depends on the situation and context. They can be assigned to guard and protect other life forms and Beings of Light and No Light until released.
32 Consciousness/Conscious is one of three absolute forms that represent the Beings of Light and No Light. Consciousness represents the mind/brain and Soul as One Being (See Soul; See One Being). It is an enormous sphere of Energy/life force that houses all memories, thoughts, wisdom, Knowledge, identities, and experiences of all life forms. For the life forms, it's what makes them who they are, a living entity acknowledging its existence and a formed intelligence.
33 Nature is the body, behaviors, and emotions of all life forms, which are unique to each species, society, culture, and biological entity. However, The Absolute Truth (See TheAbsolute Truth) is that this Nature identifies each species, culture, etc., and that it represents a constant that unifies and characterizes them.
34 Black Hole represents the Beings of No Light life force as a black hole (absent of Light) located in the middle of their chest. The Beings of No Light are without a Light, and it represents their incompleteness and symbolizes having no Soul.
35 Darkness is another way to describe The Realm of No Light. It is the completion of darkness where no light will ever shine and where the creatures of darkness reside. Any place with darkness is a doorway for the Beings of No Light and their creatures/monsters to pass through as a natural form of transportation to a place where darkness is already found (such as the inside of a cave). It also represents the negative energy and darkness one holds inside themselves. It will or can corrupt if not controlled, and the individual doesn't acknowledge it and heal. The darkness can overpower and turn the individual into a Being of No Light if they lack the strong will to overcome it.
36 Fear is the deepest, most terrifying fear. The emotion of Fear universally applies to all life forms (everyone has experiences based on Fear(s)). It is the fear life forms will not admit to and will hide from. Fear is tied to Doubt (See Doubt). Fear can be destructive and violent. However, Fear can lead to protecting oneself out of survival. Fear applies to The Law and The Absolute Truth (See The Law; See The Absolute Truth). Fear and Knowledge (See Knowledge) can cause one to lose their Light/Soul (See Light), or it can help an individual grow and change as a person. Fear can both lead to destruction and chaos, or it can lead to progress. Fear can lead to solutions towards peace and keep the balance in The Universe if used for the right reasons, depending on each individual and their circumstances. All of creation shares the emotions related to fear and logic based on their experiences.
