"Yes," Ophelia confirms. "But Gideon has been skillfully keeping him in the dark about the truth."
"Perfect," I respond, making a grimace. "Although I do feel guilty. The guy helped us out, and I basically deceived him before giving him the cold shoulder."
"Which was completely justified. We can't risk exposing your identity to just anyone, even though he's hardly just anyone, right?" She raises her eyebrows suggestively, and I can practically feel James's intense stare burning into me from across the room.
"I do trust him," I admit carefully. "But you're absolutely right. Keeping the truth hidden is essential. The danger is simply too great." I release a heavy sigh. "Since you're not sticking around, how about joining me for a romantic stroll through the forest?"
Her face lights up with a smile. "I was really hoping you'd suggest that."
