Nora's POV
I grip the wine bottle and pull out the cork with shaking hands. I can feel everyone's eyes on me as I pour myself a generous glass, downing half of it before turning around. Ophelia, Katherine, Lena, and James sit around the small kitchen table, while Zed remains in the living room trying to keep Elodie entertained.
My head spins from more than just the wine. My heart hammers against my ribs, and I waver between wanting to collapse and needing to grab a sword and hunt down every last demon in the woods.
Recently, James had been cursed and dying right before my eyes. We'd transferred the curse, and now someone had sent a demon with monstrous roots for companions. A demon that somehow knew my protective wards would keep it from crossing the threshold.
"Do you still think James killed those people in the woods?" My tone comes out sharper than I'd intended. The wine is already hitting my system, but my nerves are getting worse by the minute.
