Chapter 174 - Divine Script Studies - Chapter 174

After some time later, the cargo arrived. Conrad took the package and opened it quickly.

As he was pretty excited to finally have what he needed for more information.

Ancient script was already something that is not that explored much in the anime itself. Conrad knew that some symbols and writing with these scripts have an effect on men, but he did not know the reason for it.

Two books were not that big; it could be said that the total pages of them were not more than fifty pages.

The first book had the title of "Symbols and Characters," and the second one is "Fundamentals Of Divine Script."

Ancient Script also used the name of the Divine Script.

Conrad sat on his chair and opened the first book about the fundamentals.

He started reading and kept on nodding.

For him to read the whole book, he only needed ten minutes of time; after he finished reading, he closed his eyes and smiled.

"The Divine Script is a written language of 'nen,' a different kind of expression of the nen."

"Similar to Hatsu but in the form of a language and symbols that also come from an unknown place."

These two were the most important pieces of knowledge in the book.

Other information was about how it came to the eyes of NEN users and similar types of things.

"Unknown Place," either a place in the known world or the dark continent.

"The word 'Unknown' makes me think that the source of Divine Script is the Dark Continent."

"Maybe it is the language of the people there if there are any."

Conrad thought and then opened the second book, Symbols and Characters.

There were about twenty symbols and their use of them; the symbols also had categories like "Enhancer," "Emitter," and similar.

"According to these two new pieces of knowledge, I can make some sort of a deciphering."

"I can use what I know."

"When Knov creates portals, he writes on solid ground. If my memory is not right, his characters and symbols when he is creating two portals are the same as "emitter characters."

"The first book also says using Divine Script with mastery is really hard and needs a lot of concentration."

"Either a new user takes too much of his time to write or he focuses on this aspect a long time to write quickly."

Conrad took a deep breath and remembered the Boxer in Greed Island and the ring.

"The symbols on that ring are Enhancer Symbols and Emitter Symbols; Enhancer to enhance the nen power of that boxer and Emitter to help him use that teleportation."

"It is similar to creating an ability with nen, but for a temporary use."

Conrad thought and smiled.

"If Nen abilities are spellbooks that one creates and keeps on using, ancient script is talismans and scrolls."

"This also makes me think that Knov is using his mastery over Ancient Script as a condition to use his ability effectively."

"If he were to put that every time he uses teleportation, he would need to use corresponding symbols to enhance his Nen capability."

"It would be pretty powerful."

"Not to mention, who knows how many more scripts and symbols are in his room, on his key, on the door, and everywhere else."

"It is like the programming language of the nen…"

Conrad then remembered two more things.

"First was the Wing and his promise string that he gave Gon, which had the programming of break when in contact with nen."

"Second is Greed Island Ring."

Conrad touched his chin and nodded.

"The box of Ging that he left for Gon to find when he becomes a hunter is another aspect of it too."

Conrad then concluded.

"The Greed Island Ring is a much more complex and heavy application of the Divine Script, while the Promise String and Metal Box are more basic uses."

"If I knew that the metal box would only respond to the Gon but nobody else, it would change a lot of things."

Conrad then got up for a moment.

"If divine script is another aspect of 'nen,' another expression of it, and it is similar to 'programming language,' then it can be used to set out different results for different wishes, as long as the script is right and filled with intent."

"All these theories of mine only work if I do some practice of them."

Conrad massaged his temples and then wanted to try something simple.

"Let's say I want to have a paper that would break when it comes to contact with my nen."

"According to the book, I need to use three symbols mixed together to have such an effect."

"The book only tells one thing: Divine Script is the same as creating an ability with an effect, but instead of soul, it comes from intent, and the nen needs to be put in the symbols."

"Like a talisman, as I thought."

Conrad then kept on thinking and trying to find more and more.

He believed that, whatever he needed to do, if he were to call himself a Nen Sage, it would be pretty funny and not a deserved title if he did not know a great deal about Divine Script.

If he mastered this power, with his infinite nen abilities and knowledge and understanding of nen, his capabilities and improvement of nen effects would increase leaps and bounds.

He first believed that, the next morning, he needed to complete one object that works and was inscribed with the divine script.

"I need to start working now," he said and then sat down as he started writing the scripts, not with nen or intent behind it; he just wanted to practice drawing the characters correctly.

(Divine Script and Inscription are pretty unknown in the series itself, so I will create and fill it with my own understanding of it.)
