The imposing walls of Sunagakure were the first thing Guren saw, leaving her utterly amazed after wandering through the desert.
They had started their journey two days prior at a peaceful pace so that Sayuri and Guren would not face any hardships along the way. Upon reaching the gates, they didn't even have to fill out any paperwork; an ANBU suddenly appeared and granted them immediate entry.
Pakura, who had physically recovered though she was still unable to use chakra due to the strain of her ultimate technique, observed the massive changes in the village. She could see that both civilians and ninjas looked much happier.
The streets were bustling with people, filled with new food stalls and activities to do. Previously, Sunagakure had been a strictly military village, but it was shifting to become a commercial hub a necessary change to ensure its independence and keep it running without relying on the Daimyo.
Maki, who was accompanying the group, also noticed the transformation, having spent the last two years stationed in Kanzaki where Pakura was in command.
During the long nights of camping on the return trip, both Pakura and Maki had spent time talking to Guren about Sunagakure and the Kazekage. They explained patiently that she shouldn't fear him, that Sunagakure was no longer a village that viewed everyone merely as weapons. Perhaps in the past, but not anymore.
But one detail in particular had engraved itself in the little girl's mind: Daigo was an unprecedented genius, the first man in history to conceive, develop, and create the Shōton (Crystal Element) from scratch.
It hadn't been the result of gruesome experiments or forced mutations; it was born from his constant desire and vision to create something completely new revolutionary power to help Sunagakure prosper and defend itself from the world.
Not only that, but he was also the youngest Kage in history and the one who had expanded the village furthest beyond the desert.
For Guren, who until that moment had viewed her own ability as a cursed affliction and a stigma tied to Orochimaru's cold laboratories, knowing that the leader of the village himself respected, understood, and shared the nature of that power filled her with a profound, almost mystical intrigue.
The wooden door of the wide reception room in the tower opened with a soft click, revealing a room illuminated by the warm light of the setting sun.
Daigo was standing by the large circular window, overlooking the village, but as soon as the group crossed the threshold, his attention turned immediately to the newcomers.
His Kazekage cloak rested over the back of a nearby chair, revealing his most approachable side.
Guren shrank back instantly, hiding almost completely behind Sayuri, using the woman as a human shield against the unknown.
Noticing the shyness, the tense shoulders, and the evident fear of the six-year-old girl, Daigo broke all the military formality and protocol expected of his rank.
He walked toward them with soft, deliberate steps, removing any hint of threat from his posture, and knelt down completely, bringing himself exactly to Guren's eye level.
A warm, serene, and genuine smile appeared on his face, which was tired from the heavy responsibilities of the past few days. He extended his right hand and gently placed it on the little girl's head, lightly rustling her dark hair.
"Welcome to Sunagakure, Guren," Daigo said, his voice soft yet carrying such absolute reassurance that it seemed to calm the girl's racing heart.
"You are safe here. You never have to worry about Orochimaru again; that man will never lay a hand on you while you are within the walls of this village. I promise you solemnly."
Guren blinked repeatedly, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. Nobody in her short life, except for the kind Sayuri, had ever spoken to her with such humanity, with such respect, and without viewing her simply as a disposable weapon of destruction or a useful piece of crystal.
Daigo stood up slowly, maintaining his warm gaze, and turned his attention to Sayuri, who looked back at him, nodding with a gesture of deep respect.
"It is a true pleasure to meet you, Sayuri-san. To you and little Yukimaru. From this very moment, Sunagakure grants you the status of protected refugees under my direct command. You will have a home of your own in a safe area of the village, food, and the safety you deserve for having protected this little girl's life. Maki will accompany you to your new quarters right now so you can rest from the journey and freshen up."
Before the group withdrew from the room, Daigo cast his gaze back down toward the little crystal user, his eyes filled with plans and promises.
"Guren, I want you to come to my office first thing tomorrow morning. We have a lot to talk about regarding your future, your education, and that incredible power you carry, which you will learn to control for the good of everyone."
The girl, though nervous, felt an immense weight lift from her chest and nodded timidly. Maki, after making a deep bow of respect to her leader, placed a hand on Sayuri's back and guided the woman, the baby, and little Guren out of the room.
Only the two of them remained in the room.
The moment the echo of the footsteps outside and the murmur of the hallway guards completely faded behind the closed door, the rigid facade of the Kazekage and the firm posture of the Heroine of the Desert collapsed to the floor like dry leaves.
They stared at each other in silence for what felt like entire minutes, letting the air in the room fill with the accumulated weight of their two-year separation. Their estrangement hadn't just been due to the argument they had, but also because of Daigo's long training, during which he kept her stationed in Kanzaki to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Yet, none of this had broken the deep affection they held for one another; though they didn't speak it aloud, both had been eagerly waiting for this exact moment of reunion.
Daigo took a step forward, closing the distance between them, and without a single word, wrapped his arms around Pakura's waist, pulling her tightly against his body. She let out a sharp sigh a sound that mingled the relief of being alive with the release of all the emotional burden she had endured in Kanzaki and wrapped her arms around Daigo's neck, sinking completely into his secure embrace.
The encounter turned passionate and urgent in an instant. There was no need for verbal explanations, apologies, or reproaches about the past. Daigo claimed her with a deep, hungry kiss, fueled by the wait of not seeing her for two years.
Pakura responded with the same, if not greater, intensity; her hands gripped Daigo's shoulders, biting his lower lip and intertwining her fingers in his hair, letting herself be swept away by the tide of physical sensations clouding her mind.
Daigo guided her toward the private room where he slept whenever he worked late, pushing the door open with his foot without breaking the contact of their mouths or the fire of their breath. Before going any further, Daigo made a swift movement, focusing chakra into his hand to strike the wall, activating a privacy seal, before putting all his attention back on Pakura.
The buttons of tactical vests and heavy combat fabric quickly yielded to the haste and skill of hands searching for the warmth of bare skin.
Their clothes began to fall to the floor in a messy trail across the room. The atmosphere became dense, warm, feverish, and thick with the scent of clean sand and body heat. In the protective dimness of the room, the brush of skin, muffled gasps, and their absolute surrender to each other made it clear that time and distance had done nothing to cool their feelings quite the contrary.
They passed into action on a night where the debts of the past and the scars of war were completely settled between sheets and silent promises that needed no words to be understood.
The next morning, the desert sun rose with relentless force, but deep beneath Sunagakure, the atmosphere was radically different.
In the new training ground of the 7 Shadows of the Desert, built by Daigo beneath the village and reinforced with his crystal alongside the sand, lay a sanctuary where the swordsmen could train without being seen or spied on by anyone.
Daigo entered the field with a firm stride, his Kazekage cloak billowing slightly behind him, reflecting the absolute authority of his rank. In front of him, lined up in a perfect stance of attention, the current shadows of the village waited in silence, forming a line that radiated a latent danger.
On the far left stood Kisame Hoshigaki, maintaining his characteristic shark-like grin full of sharp teeth, his arms crossed over his broad chest and the massive, bandaged Samehada resting menacingly on his back.
Next to him was Kaito, his analytical eyes watching the Kazekage, waiting to hear the purpose of the meeting, while the Kabutowari gleamed on his back with a renewed aura of danger.
Beside them stood Baki, carrying the Nuibari over his shoulder as if it were a fishing rod. His most striking feature was his completely white eyes, representing his Byakugan.
Rounding out the defensive line was Genta, who, with his simple and agile build, carried both Kiba blades on his hip, secured in their sheaths.
However, everyone's gaze inevitably shifted with curiosity toward the new member completing the lineup today: Yura.
From what Daigo had read in the reports and remembered from the anime, he knew this ninja was strong at least capable of wiping out the entire wall unit of Sunagakure back when he acted as a spy for Sasori to let him and Deidara slip inside.
Now, wearing the dark uniform of the Shadows, Yura firmly carried on his back the enormous, heavy, and legendary Kubikiribōchō , which had once belonged to Jūzō Biwa.
It was Kisame himself who, after witnessing Yura's cold resolve, physical endurance, and latent potential when Yura tried to challenge Kisame to take his spot as a shadow, decided to add him to the ranks.
With Yura's inclusion, the group now possessed five official elite members, leaving only two spots vacant since the village had yet to find wielders worthy of mastering the complex mechanics of the Shibuki and the mystical Hiramekarei.
"The five Shadows are gathered," Daigo spoke, stepping in front of them. His voice echoed off the stone walls with a gravity that instantly chilled the room.
"I have summoned you because we have a mission of the highest priority ahead of us. And this time, I will be accompanying you myself."
Daigo's declaration triggered a wave of genuine, contained surprise among the members of the group.
Since the formal founding of this operations squad, all the members had never operated together on a single joint mission abroad, let alone accompanied and guided by Daigo himself on the front line.
Everyone in the room understood immediately that if Daigo chose to move alongside them, the objective of the mission was on an international scale capable of shaking the established order.
"A mission with the entire squad gathered and the Kazekage himself leading the deployment?" Kisame commented, letting out a rough, low, cavernous laugh that showed his enthusiasm for the conflict.
"Well, well... This gets truly interesting overnight. Who do we have to crush, or what village are we wiping off the map this time, Daigo-sama?"
Daigo looked at Kisame, who was waiting for the order to bring Samehada into the fray.
"We are not going to attack any village. Our destination is the Land of Water," Daigo said, spreading a small tactical map over a nearby stone table.
"We are going to venture deep into the territories of Kirigakure, taking advantage of the fact that the village is currently locked in the absolute chaos of its own internal civil war. Our main mission is to locate and directly contact the leaders of the clanes who possess a Kekkei Genkai (bloodline)
those who are currently being systematically hunted, persecuted, and massacred by the cruel regime of the Bloody Mist. Specifically, we will seek out the strongest. We are going to offer them total political asylum, immediate military protection under our banner, and the opportunity to integrate as full citizens in Sunagakure."
A heavy silence filled the room when Daigo finished explaining the mission. It caught everyone off guard; they didn't expect Daigo to go as far as entering the Land of Water to steal Kirigakure's clans.
"Hahaha! So, it wasn't enough for you to steal their 7 swords, now you want their bloodline clans too? Daigo, I knew you were greedy, but you surprise me more every day," Kisame said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I am not greedy. It's just that if an opportunity passes right before my hands, I am not going to let it slip away, just like what happened with the swords."
"Well, you've got a point there," Kisame admitted with brutal, direct honesty. "Though I highly doubt those clans will accept an offer from a foreign village at the first word, Daigo-sama. The pride of Kiri's bloodlines is usually far greater than their own survival instinct; they'd rather die in their homeland than ask for help.
However... I have to admit your idea is a stroke of strategic brilliance. If we manage to convince them and bring those users of different elements into the ranks of the sand, Sunagakure will become a superpower stronger than ever before. No one in the ninja world will dare touch us or question our borders."
"I share the same opinion from a tactical standpoint," Kaito said, stepping closer to the stone table to analyze the infiltration routes on the map.
"Taking advantage of the internal weakness, the political instability, and the Mizukage's stupidity to absorb the raw strength of their persecuted clans is a textbook masterstroke. The risk of a direct confrontation with the tracking forces and Kiri's Hunter-nin is extremely high, but with this full team and your presence in the field, the success of the operation is perfectly viable."
Baki and Genta nodded in unison, fully sharing their leader's vision for the future. Adding the tactical versatility of bloodline users to Sunagakure's forces represented a historic opportunity that the village could not afford to pass up out of fear of conflict.
"Prepare your combat gear," Daigo ordered, bringing the session to a close with a firm tone. "We will depart silently in two days. Be fully ready to move out at the north gate right at dawn."
The five current shadows made a perfect, synchronized bow of respect toward their Kazekage before beginning to disperse into the shadows and dim light of the training ground, their minds already set on the grand mission that would completely redefine the balance of power among the Five Great Shinobi Nations.
