Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Tides of Jealousy

The next morning, the campus buzzed with its usual energy, but Yumi couldn't focus. Every glance, every whisper seemed amplified, and every time she felt Pherrie near, her heart skipped. She tried to keep calm, tried to act normal, but Pherrie had a way of making her feel simultaneously exposed and protected.

"You're unusually quiet today," Pherrie said, sidling up beside her as they walked to class. His voice was low, teasing, carrying that spark that always made her cheeks warm.

"I'm… fine," Yumi replied, trying to sound confident. Her hands twisted in her sleeves, betraying her calm exterior.

Pherrie smirked knowingly. "Sure, Princess. Keep telling yourself that." He reached out casually and brushed a strand of hair from her face, letting his fingers linger just a moment longer than necessary. Yumi's breath caught.

From across the courtyard, Kai watched intently, leaning against a tree. She stepped forward, her gaze sharp. "Pherrie, you really don't have to hover over her all the time," she said, voice deceptively light, masking the jealousy underneath.

Pherrie's eyes narrowed slightly, not in anger, but in calculated challenge. "She's my Princess," he said softly, his voice carrying a weight that made Yumi's heart flutter. "That's all you need to know."

Kai's lips pressed into a thin line. "Interesting… I didn't know she had a title like that with you."

Yumi felt the tension spike. She tugged lightly on Pherrie's sleeve, silently pleading for him not to escalate things, but he only tightened his grip on her hand, a quiet, possessive statement.

Before Yumi could react further, Damian appeared, stepping into the open with a scowl. "Yumi!" he called, his tone sharp and insistent. "I need to talk to you—now!"

Pherrie's jaw clenched, and his entire stance shifted, protective and alert. He stepped slightly in front of Yumi, blocking Damian with ease. "She doesn't need to go anywhere with you," he said firmly.

Damian's eyes darkened. "She doesn't belong with you!"

Yumi's chest tightened. She hadn't realized how much fear and anticipation she felt, seeing the two of them stand so tensely. She took a step closer to Pherrie, needing his presence, needing his reassurance.

Pherrie's hand brushed hers again, and this time he squeezed lightly. "I won't let anyone take her from me," he said, voice low, dangerous, and undeniably jealous.

Damian's face contorted with frustration. "Yumi, listen to me!"

Yumi shook her head, her voice quiet but firm. "I choose myself. I choose who I want to be with—and that's not you."

Kai stepped back slightly, realizing the strength of Yumi's choice, and Damian's shoulders slumped in defeat, though his eyes still burned with jealousy.

Pherrie leaned down slightly, just enough that his lips brushed the side of her ear, and whispered, teasingly yet possessively, "See? You're safe with me, Princess. Always."

Yumi's breath hitched, her heart racing. The world seemed to shrink to just the two of them, the intensity of his gaze and the warmth of his touch making everything else fade away.

As the sun rose higher, Pherrie led her away from the courtyard, fingers entwined, leaving Damian and Kai behind. And for the first time, Yumi truly understood: some pulls were impossible to resist, and some hearts… were worth every bit of jealousy, teasing, and danger.
