Chapter 11 - A Narrow Escape

"I'm so glad. I'm really glad. I thought it was already too late."

The moment the snake's eyes met Qiong Xing's, Solinus truly thought it was over.

He hated his own powerlessness and wished he could turn back time somehow.

But it was safe.

Both of his hands were clenched tight and soaked with sweat.

"How much more does Lunios's plan keep make me worry?"

Even while showing a bitter smile, he was relieved that Qiong Xing was safe.

Only a few hours had passed since they had sent him over there.

Solinus thought that he had never felt this nervous and on edge before.

As a Lunios's secretary and educator, there were days when he felt tense and irritated every day, but Qiong Xing's carefree attitude and reckless behavior were on another level entirely.

Watching him made Solinus's heart race nonstop.

They had sent him to a forest near the town so he could arrive quickly, yet for some reason he went in the exact opposite direction and ended up getting lost.

He should have already been sightseeing in town by now and yet somehow he ended up surrounded by blood covered corpses and facing a giant snake.

Even while drowning in fear and sorrow, he saw the snake off and for some reason, he was entrusted with its child.

Unexpected did not even begin to cover it.

Too many things that no one could have imagined had happened in just a few short hours.

"The bandits got what they deserved, but I'm glad that the giant snake's egg was saved in the end."

Lunios feel his heart hurt that Qiong Xing had been shown such a terrible scene, but thanks to Qiong Xing, the giant snake was able to pass away peacefully in its final moments.

That snake had originally been something like a guardian god of the forest.

It was a being that would never harm others unless they acted first.

He could feel hatred toward the bandits who broke that balance, but even so, there was no room to feel sympathy for those who died such brutal deaths.

"I know, but… I'm already exhausted. At this point, it would've been way better if I had just gone with him."

"Are you an idiot? If that were possible, I would have gone a long time ago. You should hurry up and do your job and summon some so-called hero or saintess already. As for Qiong Xing, I'll properly watch over, no, I mean, protect him."

Calling his superior an idiot, even if only casually.

On top of that, pushing his work onto someone else while claiming he would 'observe'—no, 'watch over' Qiong Xing.

That was unfair. Far too unfair.

But if Lunios pointed it out, a long lecture and a massive argument that would somehow drag Qiong Xing into it would surely follow.

"…Alright. But! But! If anything happens to Qiong Xing, tell me right away, okayyyyyy?!"

As he ran off while shouting pathetically, Solinus let out a deep sigh.
