Keifer POV
The city lights stretched beneath me, golden and alive, but none of it mattered. All I could think about was her.
Jay leaned against the railing, hair loose, eyes scanning the skyline. She looked calm, untouchable—but I knew better. I could see the tiniest flicker in her expression whenever I moved closer.
I approached slowly, not wanting to startle her. "You come here often?" I asked lightly, pretending casualness.
She glanced at me, lips twitching. "Maybe. Only when I need to think. Or avoid certain people."
I smirked. "Certain people? Sounds like you mean me."
Her cheeks warmed just slightly. She looked away, pretending to watch the city. Perfect. A reaction. I moved closer, just enough that the space between us was electric but not overbearing.
"You know," I said, letting my voice drop a little, "I could get used to seeing you like this… calm, unreachable, thinking you're in control."
Her breath hitched subtly, and I smiled. "Or maybe you like it because you think you can't have me."
She finally looked at me, eyes bright but sharp. "Don't flatter yourself, Keifer. You're not that impressive."
I leaned just a bit closer, close enough that I could feel her warmth, the faint scent of her perfume. "Oh, I know I'm impressive," I teased. "But I want to be… impressive for you."
Her lips twitched, the blush creeping higher. "You're impossible," she muttered, half-laughing, half-annoyed.
Jay POV
I wanted to stay composed, to act untouchable—but every word, every step he took closer made my chest beat faster.
"I don't know why you keep doing this," I said softly, letting a laugh escape. "You know I can't just… fall for it that easily."
"Good," he whispered, so close I felt the warmth of his breath, "because I don't do easy."
My pulse raced. My hands itched to push him away—but not too hard. Not yet.
And then… he reached out, lightly brushing his fingers along mine. Just a touch, but it made my chest tighten, and my knees felt slightly weak.
I pulled my hand back instinctively, but he caught it, holding it lightly, smiling softly.
"See? Not so scary," he murmured.
"I—" I started, my voice faltering.
"Shh," he whispered, leaning closer, eyes locked on mine. "Just… feel this."
I swallowed, heart pounding, heat rushing to my cheeks. I could feel him… closer than ever, yet not crossing the line. And somehow, that made it even more… maddening.
Keifer POV
Her reaction was perfect. The blush, the tiny flinch, the way she didn't pull away completely… intoxicating.
I let go of her hand after a heartbeat, just enough to let her breathe, but kept my gaze locked on hers. "You're beautiful like this," I murmured.
She snapped her eyes to mine. "I said don't flatter yourself!"
I chuckled softly. "Not flattering. Observing."
Her lips twitched, a small smile slipping despite herself. That was progress. Real, tangible progress.
