Chapter 44 - Fragile Bond

I woke slowly, drifting upward from sleep with a strange sense of fullness in my chest, like something inside me had finally settled into place. For a few blissful seconds, I didn't open my eyes. I just lay there, breathing in the quiet, letting the warmth of the sheets cradle me.

My body felt incredible—no soreness, no heaviness, no lingering ache. If anything, I felt restored, as if every nerve had been tuned and then gently set back into harmony. There was a deep satisfaction humming under my skin, something calm and complete.

Then my hand reached out instinctively to the other side of the bed.

Cold.

I opened my eyes immediately and turned my head.

The pillow beside me was slightly dented, the sheets faintly creased, his sweet omega scent surrounded me, proof that he had been there. Proof that I hadn't imagined any of it. But he wasn't there now. The space beside me felt far too large, far too empty.
