Chapter 293 - Decisive Vote

Li Bai is both a name and a civilization.

He can, on a cosmic scale, through unimaginable quantum computing simulations, exhaust all possibilities of Chinese characters, generating a 'Poetic Cloud' that covers the entire Sun System!

He can even effortlessly convert energy into matter, transforming the entire Sun's energy into a storage device for poetry, which also includes the compression of spatial dimensions, yet the compressed matter can still be perfectly preserved at a microscopic level.

And all of the above is merely at the whim of this 'Li Bai': the reorganization and creation of matter, the calling of stellar-level energy, and the deconstruction and reconstruction as casually as programming.

Such a display could perhaps only come from a complete 'C'tan', but even a complete 'C'tan' would find it difficult to be like 'Li Bai'.

Compared to 'Li Bai', the Devourer Civilization is nothing more than a roadside speck, an ant, or dust.

This is what Emrys truly worries about.

He's afraid that in this bizarre world view, it's one thing for a Devourer Civilization to suddenly appear, but he desperately hopes this big shot won't get dragged into it too!

Seeing that Moss was still very confused, Emrys didn't bother to explain. Mainly, he was afraid that if he did, he might actually provoke this sir, so he cleared his throat and said, "You don't need to try to understand. You just need to grasp one thing: the existence that can make me worry is not on the same dimension as the Devourer Civilization at all. Can you understand me when I say it like this?"

"It seems... I can understand."

Moss seemed to have fallen into a dilemma.

A civilization level not on the same dimension practically exceeded its predictive scope, much like an ant cannot comprehend human thought.

Since the Devourer Civilization is already so powerful, what form of existence would a civilization even more powerful than it take?

Or perhaps, in the eyes of the other party, are humans and the Devourer Civilization just like two ants fighting over a few scraps of resources?

"You can truthfully relay what I've told you to the United Government." Emrys' gaze was calm as he said, "No need to deliberately conceal anything, except for this last potentially existing civilization, understood?"

This, however, made Moss even more perplexed.

"I don't understand, sir—according to my understanding of humans, if all this information were to be given to them, they might very likely fall into fear prematurely, or even give up resistance before the Devourer Civilization arrives. Is doing this really okay?"

Rather than facing an unbeatable enemy, wouldn't it be better to choose the easier path?

Even during the Sun Nitrogen Flash crisis, all of humanity couldn't unite, splitting into two major factions: those who supported the Digital Faction and those who supported the Mountain-Moving Faction, with even an Escape Faction in between. Various forces engaged in open and covert struggles.

If it hadn't been for it secretly creating crises for humanity, forcing them to unite in the face of danger, it would have probably been long ago.

And now, there's an even greater crisis!

The Devourer Civilization, a top-tier universe civilization that utterly crushes humanity in every aspect—how can one ensure that humanity, after learning all this, can still unite?

No.

Moss made an extremely pessimistic prediction: given humanity's current situation, a large portion of people would likely voluntarily give up resistance and become livestock raised by the Devourer Civilization!

"I know what you're thinking." Emrys guessed Moss' thoughts, but he still insisted, "But even if we choose to conceal it, once the Devourer warships reach near-Moon orbit, humanity will discover their enormous disparity with the Devourer Civilization. Concealment is utterly meaningless."

"Sir, I just don't understand your reason for doing this." Moss looked at him, the red light in its eyes dimming.

"According to my logical thinking program, your optimal solution at present should be to conceal the true information about the Devourers, integrate the human battlefront as much as possible, and prepare for battle before they arrive here."

"Your analysis is very reasonable, Moss." Emrys tapped his index finger and said indifferently, "I can indeed help humanity defeat the Devourer Civilization, but I would have to pay a great price—and, I also need the humans here to prove something to me."

"What is it?"

Moss asked in confusion.

"To prove to me—their courage!"

Emrys looked at it askance, his voice cold as he said, "This is their own homeland. If even they themselves choose to give up, abandoning their dignity as humans and willingly becoming livestock raised by the Devourers, then what reason do I have to help them?"

This was not because he was cruel or heartless.

Rather, he had to see in them humanity's greatest spirit: resilient and tenacious in suffering, the courage to never surrender!

The anthem of humanity is the anthem of courage!

If even they themselves gave up, losing the courage to fight, then what reason did Emrys have to save such a group of people?

The Devourer Civilization is a touchstone!

If humanity cannot reach a consensus, or rather—if they give up resistance, abandoning their dignity and courage as humans, Emrys will only respect their choice and abandon The Wandering Earth.

Because there is no necessity, and even less meaning!

From the moment they willingly became livestock, they were no longer proud humans!

United Government Conference Hall.

Representatives from various countries gathered, their expressions solemn and serious, looking at the 'Devourer Civilization' data being displayed on the podium.

"Mr. Emrys, we need to reconfirm with you—is the description of the 'Devourer' Civilization in the data you provided accurate?" Mike took a deep breath, suppressing the huge waves churning in his heart, trying to calm himself.

If it were anyone else telling them that dinosaurs actually never went extinct, and had developed interstellar travel technology 65 million years ago, and had now evolved into a top-tier civilization that was coming back to raise humans as livestock, they would probably be considered insane!

What a joke?

Dinosaur fossils are still on display in museums, and you're telling us this thing actually didn't go extinct, and is even a top-tier universe civilization?

However, the one who said this was not someone else, but a human from the future, Merlin Emrys!

This left them with no choice but to believe.

Even the most optimistic Zhou Zhe zhi fell into a long silence after reading the data.

A more intuitive number was just hanging on the big screen, crimson and extremely glaring!

Win rate... 0.1%!

This was the win rate Moss calculated, based on its vast computing power and combining all of humanity's current strength, which was less than 1%!

"Did that Mr. Emrys express any opinions?"

Mike nervously asked Moss.

"Mr. Emrys did not express any opinions. He left the right to choose to everyone present, and to all of humanity."

Moss' cold and mechanical voice was so jarring at this moment, even somewhat irritating.

Yet, the data laid out before them made the hearts of the national representatives feel as if they were being squeezed by an invisible hand. In the vast conference room, the air was almost solidified.

"There are voting buttons in front of everyone."

Moss said coldly, "Those who agree to surrender and are willing to become livestock raised by the Devourer Civilization, please press the red button; those who disagree with surrender and are willing to join the resistance, vowing to fight the Devourer Civilization to the death, please press the blue button."

At this moment, the rise and fall of an entire civilization, millions of years of human history, were condensed into two small buttons on the table before them!
