Chapter 311 - Who?

This projection is very strange.

He wore exquisite armor that looked like bone, each bone plate stitched with gold thread, and the Emperor's Proverbs were written in an unknown, bright red liquid.

His right eye had been replaced with a mechanical android eye, resembling an irregular hexagon, which looked quite high-class, definitely not ordinary.

More importantly, his voice sounded like it had a double echo, hoarse and deep yet sharp and piercing, making one extremely uncomfortable.

"You… are my successor?"

That person's gloomy and chilling gaze, like a knife, wantonly swept over Emrys. His chapped lips curled slightly, and he said expressionlessly, "Immature, pathetic, tragic. I didn't expect my successor to be such a child.

What about Arthur? Is he dead, to have chosen you?"

Is there something wrong with this person?!

Emrys' mouth twitched. He suppressed his rising anger, scoffed, and replied, "You call me immature, but what are you? What right do you have to lecture me? A pathetic and tragic loser!"

These words seemed to hit a sore spot. His already sinister gaze gained a hint of murderous intent.

"What? Am I wrong?" Apart from Arthur, Emrys had never been afraid of anyone when it came to people. Isn't it just about exposing each other's flaws?

From the information revealed in the other party's few sentences, Emrys had already guessed his true identity.

The 'father' who had been missing for over twenty years, and the main culprit behind the family's decline—Edoras Emrys, the former family head!

After a moment of silence, the murderous intent in Edoras' eyes receded. As if he had accepted this fact, he said calmly, "You are right, I am indeed a loser, but it is precisely because I failed that an unqualified person like you can

sit in this position and inherit our great mission."

"Ah, so I should thank you, then?"

Emrys couldn't help but sneer, rejecting the other party's PUA, and said disdainfully, "Stop lecturing me in such a condescending tone. If it weren't for you, the family wouldn't have fallen to this state. That we can now pick up this great mission again is thanks to me."

"If it weren't for me, the family would have been gone long ago. Just from that point, you should kneel and say thank you."

Everything he said was true.

If it weren't for him, Emrys, the Varsius family would only have the title of a 'Trader Dynasty' and slowly slide into the abyss, eventually being torn apart by those in the Imperium, devoured like vultures!

Edoras evidently hadn't expected his 'successor' to be so sharp-tongued, and was choked into silence.

Seeing the other party speechless, Emrys turned back to his chair, crossed his right leg over his left, and tilted his head, looking askance at him.

"I suggest we don't waste each other's time. Quickly tell me your secrets; I don't particularly want to see your face."

Before truly seeing 'Edoras,' Emrys admitted that he still held some unrealistic fantasies about his predecessor's father, but now—well, the filter had been completely shattered.

"Indeed."

Edoras didn't care about his 'successor's' attitude and said coldly, "You only need to fulfill your mission. As for the rest—it's not important."

"Is the mission you keep mentioning related to the oath sworn ten thousand years ago before the Golden Throne in the Terra Imperial Palace?" It was finally getting to the point. Emrys leaned forward slightly, watching him intently.

"Yes."

Edoras' answer was concise.

"What is the content of the oath?" Emrys asked eagerly. If anyone could tell him the answer, it was only the person in front of him.

After all, Edoras was the only person Emrys had met so far who was closest to the 'truth' and could tell him.

However, looking at the eager Emrys, Edoras asked a very strange question.

"How old are you—this year?"

"Is that important?" Emrys twitched his lips, a bit speechless.

"Do you have to ask such an irrelevant question at such a crucial moment?"

Edoras nodded.

In the end, Emrys was helpless and could only say, "I'm exactly twenty this year."

"Twenty?" Who knew, upon hearing this, Edoras' calm eyes seemed to stir up a storm, turning intensely murderous.

Winnie immediately stepped forward, blocking Emrys, and whispered, "Be careful, it's not just a simple information storage projection, but rather—a Warp entity with a part of its soul."

What the hell, a daemon?!

Emrys' pupils contracted slightly. He had thought this projection, at most, utilized some forbidden technology, like Caul's clone.

But now, what Winnie said undoubtedly shattered Emrys' perception. This thing was actually a Warp entity?!

"Your senses are very keen."

Upon discovering Winnie, Edoras' expression finally showed a ripple.

"I am indeed not a pure projection.

To be precise, I am another Edoras created by Edoras using some Warp sorcery. We share the same memories, but the difference is that I was created with a purpose."

"What purpose?"

Emrys stared at the other party warily.

Edoras looked at him meaningfully and said, "After someone shatters the 'Yellow Navigational Chart,' to ascertain whether the person is a qualified successor. If not—then to seize their body and continue to fulfill that great mission."

"So, you just—wanted to seize my body?" Emrys frowned, staring intently at him.

"You asked my age because of this, judging me as unqualified?"

"Yes."

Edoras nodded.

"Why?" Emrys asked.

But this time, Edoras replaced his answer with silence.

Unable to get an answer, Emrys could only change the subject.

"Then why did you give up?"

"With her here, I wouldn't succeed."

Edoras was quite honest and directly stated the reason.

"Moreover, I can feel the God-Emperor's aura on her—since you are recognized by her, it means you are also recognized by the God-Emperor. I have no reason to seize your body."

Unbeknownst to him, he had been saved by Winnie once again.

Emrys took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Let's go back to the original topic. You keep talking about the mission, the mission—what exactly is the mission?"

"You'll know the answer when you get there."

Edoras said indifferently, "You must follow this specific navigation route, and only when you arrive there will you understand what our mission is. I am not deliberately concealing it; it's just that this mission—only those who arrive there can understand its meaning. This is also why Arthur doesn't know."

After all that talk, isn't he still a riddle-teller?!

Emrys scoffed, annoyed. He had thought he would finally get an answer this time, but it turned out to be another damned riddle-teller!
