Chapter 1 - The Beginning

It was five in the afternoon when Ryn decided to go outside as it snows after a long day of teaching his students fencing, arts and music.

He stepped out wearing his favorite long black coat and an ushanka hat that his students gave him. He was heading towards his favorite place — the forest he always goes to every after class.

As Ryn walked deeper into the trees, he suddenly heard a sound behind him.

A wolf? No, not at this hour.

Maybe something smaller playing around.

He tried to ignore it and continued walking until a hand suddenly grabbed his back and spun him around.

Instinct kicked in fast.

Ryn punched the person hard enough to knock him down onto the snow

"Who the fuck are yo-?!"

The words died in his throat.

Eyes widened as he stepped back when he realized who it is.

"Rayan..."

"Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?"

Rayan snapped as he stood up, wiping blood from his nose with the back of his hand. "What got you punching me just like that? Fuck you scared me."

"It's your fault for sneaking up on me." Ryn replied coldly as he removed his ushanka.

Rayan rolled his eyes, brushing snow off his jacket. "Happy birthday by the way." He said with a proud grin.

"Birthday?" Ryn checked his phone then scoffed. "Right, it's my birthday."

Ryn went silent.

Rayan chuckled.

"What?" Ryn asked.

"Dad got something for you." Rayan pulled out a pistol and tossed it to him.

Ryn caught it. "A pistol? I don't need this." He said unimpressed.

"For God's sake, just accept it." Rayan snapped. "You're lucky they care enough to give you something. All I get is dirty looks like I'm someone else's child."

"Then you can have it." Ryn said, throwing the gun back at Rayan. "They don't even know I hate guns."

Rayan caught it easily. His smile twisting.

"To be honest, when Dad called me, I thought this was mine. But no — of course it's for his favorite son he adores."

"Cut the crap." Ryn muttered. "I'd rather be dead than be loved by him"

He turned to leave.

A gunshot cracked through the forest.

Ryn Dodge instinctively. He spun around and hurled a pocket knife. It sliced Rayan's side — just enough to draw blood down.

Rayan smirked.

He fired again.

Ryn waved through the shots, charging forward. He grabbed another knife in his coat as he aimed for Rayan's head but rayan dodged at the last second.

In a blink they froze.

Ryn's knife pressed against the back of Rayan's skull.

Rayan's pistol rested beneath Ryn's chin.

"You never changed." Ryn said quietly.

"I'll always be the same." Rayan replied. "Older brother."

"I hate you."

"I hate youtoo."

Rayan stepped back and laughed as he walked away.

"Crazy bastard." Ryn muttered, heading in the opposite direction towards his grandfather's house. Hes suddenly hungry.

Their grandfather lived poorly. Their parents refused to help him but Ryn did and because of that, the old man remained healthier than he ever was back then.

When Ryn arrived, his grandfather sat down to his chair inside the house, sipping coffee.

"Grandpa." He called out.

"Oh son, welcome back" he said warmly with a smile on his face as he pulled Ryn into a hug.

"Ryn." His voice trembled as he reached Ryn's arm . "Your younger brother came back. Be careful, he might try to kill you again."

Ryn gently removed his hand. "He already did on my way here."

Fear flashed across the old man's face.

"But I'm fine." Ryn added "I didn't get hurt."

His grandfather sighed in relief and sat back down to his chair.

Ryn behan chopping onions. "Dad tried to give me a pistol for my birthday."

"You hate guns." His grandfather said.

"Exactly" Ryn said.

"Did he make Rayan deliver it?" His grandfather asked.

"Yeah. when I refused, Rayan shot at me." Ryn answered.

"Did you fight back?" His grandfather asked.

"Kind of..." Ryn answered.

"I told you never to fight back." His grandfather warned. "It only motivates him more."

"I was annoyed." Ryn said softly. "I'm sorry, pa."

"Just run next time" his grandfather adviced.

Ryn nodded. "I'll try."

##WEEKS LATER

"No! Please don't do this!"

A woman screamed as two men pinned her hard against the wall.

"Dont be scared-" one began before a fist smashed into his face.

The other man bolted.

The woman escaped.

The remaining man groaned in pain while trying to stand.

"What the fuck are yo-"

Another punch knocked him down.

He looked up weakly.

Eyes widened.

body trembled once more.

"Rayan...?" He said weakly.

Rayan answered with one last blow, knocking him unconscious on the floor.

"Fucker." He muttered while running a hand through his hair.

He stepped over the body and walked into the alley.

"I'll fight every one of you" he whispered to himself.

"Hevalair Gang."

He walked through the dark alley knowing this place was crawling with gangsters especially the Hevalair Gang

Tonight, it was empty.

That confused him. This alley was usually crowded with thugs who harrased innocent and that's really something he hated more than anything.

As he continued to walk, a presence suddenly rose behind him.

"So you came back?" A voice said close to his ear.

Rayan spun around instantly. Fist already raised then broke into a grin

"Zy?" Rayan said unsure.

He realized it was her old friend back when he was 15 years old.

She hadn't changed much. Her long pink hair fell down her back, standing out vividly in the dim alley and her purple eyes studied with familiar ease.

"Wow" Zy said, crossing her arms. "No hugs? I'm offended."

Rayan laughed. "You sneak up on people now and still expect affection? Bold."

Someone stepped out from behind zy. A tall broad shoulder. Short black hair framed a sharp face. Brown eyes are calm and watchful.

Piya's presence was solid, protective and more masculine. she positioned herself slightly in front of Zy.

Rayan's smile widened. "Oh, you're still with her — i see."

Zy smiled proudly, slipping an arm around piya's waist. "Still and I love her."

Piya gave Rayan a slow look. "And we're not here for comments."

Rayan chuckled. raising his hands in surrender. "Relax, I'm really happy for you."

A short awkward silence followed friendly but weighted with history.

Rayan glanced around the alley again. His curiosity creeped in. "So, why is this place empty?"
