The explosion shattered the calm morning sky.
Ashrik's instincts snapped into place when the sound barely began. In a blur, he pulled Lucille tightly into his left arm. Twisting his body, he extended a hand to the back, bursting a sheet of ice from his right palm.
BOOM!
The flaming blast collided with the ice mid-air. Hissing and cracking, sparks skittering across the frozen barrier.
Lucille gasped, her heart thundering from the unexpected attack. The sudden shock, the force, and the clash of frost and flame had left her entire body shaken.
"Is that Genesis...?"
Lucille looked from the back of Ashrik's head to the horizon ahead. Streaks of distorted air and crackling power surged. From the noises, she knew the enemy had outnumbered them.
Ashrik nodded, his tone clipped, "Most likely. We need to run. Now."
He could fight them alone, but not with her exposed beside him. Particularly not with unpredictable attacks raining from multiple directions.
