Lucille froze for a moment when Ashrik suddenly pulled her into his arms. Her face collided with his chest as his arms secured her tightly, as if afraid she would slip away.
His embrace wasn't just tight, but also carried his desperation. He trembled from head to toe, and the tremendous force felt almost crushing.
The silvery moonlight streamed through the thin gap of the slightly open windows. The lights from the hallway outside spilled in from the door, adding more illumination to the initially dim room.
"Lucy... You're awake..." His voice was extremely low and shaking at every edge. "T-thank goodness... You're... awake..."
This was the first time Lucille saw Ashrik act like this. Her chest tightened as her heart went out for him. At the same time, guilt clawed into her heart.
He was always composed. Whether before the apocalypse, or after they met again. It felt as if control was slipping away from his grasp.
