Ashrik closed the fridge door with a gentle thud, the dough resting inside for its long chill. Lucille watched him expectantly, sleeves still rolled up, her eyes bright.
"So... Time to make the filling now?" she asked, almost bouncing. She had forgotten the teasing nickname he had just given her.
Ashrik nodded, a soft smile playing on his lips. "Yes. It's better to make it now. Cut the fruits first."
Lucille immediately reached for the peeled apples and peaches she had washed earlier; everything was inside a colander. She placed them near the cutting board and then reached for a knife.
Ashrik joined her at the table, sitting on the opposite side. He had also grabbed another knife. He sliced through an apple, doing it slowly.
"Careful with your fingers. Like this. Not too thin or too thick."'
Lucille nodded seriously, thinking the pie-making was an even more serious business now.
