The moment Ashrik and Isaac stepped through the broken entrance of the train depot, they felt the air had changed. It was more oppressive inside, with the dust hanging thick and unmoving.
"Whew... Time for a mask," Isaac grumbled.
Ashrik said nothing, but agreed. They pulled out two long cloths from their backpack, tying the fabric to cover the lower parts of their faces.
Their eyes scanned the interior as they walked further inside. Rusted steel pillars lined the space, resembling skeletal remains. Their surfaces flaked with dust and age.
Old signal boards dangled from the ceiling, half-collapsed. Alphabets and numbers were barely legible beneath layers of grime.
Abandoned railcars sat motionless on sunken tracks. Claw marks and corrosion had scarred their metal surfaces.
The silence was indeed oppressive. If not for Isaac's concealment ability, their footsteps might have echoed too clearly.
