Rory looked at Xarion, who was sprawled across the floor with his collar open, half of his chest exposed.
"Xarion, what are you doing lying on the floor in my room?" she asked. "And why did you tie Cotton Candy up?"
Lying on the floor with his shirt open like that—who exactly was he trying to seduce?
Hearing her question, Xarion turned his gaze toward her.
"Vincent said that while they're away, the Female Master must never be left alone," he replied calmly. "If no one else is guarding you, I'm to stay by your side at all times."
Jasper was downstairs training and hadn't come up to accompany Rory.
So Xarion had come instead.
As he spoke, his tone gained a faint trace of grievance.
"I came to guard the Female Master. But the Female Master won't let me sleep on her bed, so I can only lie here."
He didn't actually want to lie on the floor—but she wouldn't let him onto the bed.
Listening to his faintly resentful tone, Rory suddenly felt a little guilty.
