When the door opened, Raj stopped playing with his Pokémon and looked toward the entrance. His eyes immediately narrowed slightly.
Standing there was a legendary figure.
No matter which Pokémon anime series it was, this man always appeared beside Ash, researching Pokémon and guiding Trainers. No matter which region he visited, he was someone whose words carried weight.
Professor Oak was one of the most respected Pokémon Professors in the world.
In this world, ten different Pokédex models had been developed under his leadership. He had once won the very first Pokémon League Championship. He had also been kidnapped by villain organizations multiple times and still managed to escape safely each time.
Later, after reaching the peak of a Trainer's career, he suddenly chose to retire from competitive battling and devote himself entirely to Pokémon research.
At the time, many people mocked his decision.
Soon afterward, Professor Oak proved them completely wrong.
With his research achievements and the development of the Pokédex system, he became a leading authority in the Pokémon research world.
Someone who could both win the League and reach the top of academic research could only be described as legendary.
Even though he usually appeared relaxed and approachable.
Facing such a figure in person, even Raj could not hide his excitement.
Professor Oak had been the first character countless people saw when starting their Pokémon journey, whether through anime or games.
And naturally, someone like Professor Oak had extremely high standards. Not just anyone could attract his attention.
"Hello, Raj. We meet again," Professor Oak said kindly.
"Hello, Professor Oak," Raj replied, suppressing his excitement and smiling sincerely.
"You performed very well this time. Although you defeated them successfully, Team Rocket is not a simple organization. Injuring several of their members will likely attract attention, so you should avoid further conflict with them when possible."
"I understand, Professor. I will be careful," Raj nodded.
Professor Oak looked satisfied.
Raj was calm and sensible. Compared to Gary's arrogance and Ash's impulsiveness, Raj appeared far more steady.
"Actually, besides visiting you, there is something I would like your help with. I wonder if you are willing," Professor Oak said with a gentle smile.
Raj noticed the trust in Professor Oak's expression and felt slightly moved, but he still asked carefully, "What kind of help do you need, Professor?"
"It's nothing difficult."
Professor Oak sat beside the table, took a sip of juice, and continued.
"As you know, I focus on Pokémon research now. But I am getting older and cannot travel everywhere myself anymore. I hope young Trainers like you can help collect more Pokémon data. Would you be willing to assist me?"
Raj frowned slightly.
"Professor, you should know that I prefer catching strong Pokémon rather than weak ones."
Professor Oak smiled and shook his head.
"Pokémon are not divided into strong or weak. Attribute advantages and disadvantages exist, but strength depends on training. Pokémon themselves are not good or evil either. They simply follow their Trainers. Even Pokémon used by Team Rocket cannot all be called evil."
"Do you understand? I am not asking you to capture every Pokémon. I only hope you help record their data in the Pokédex."
"That shouldn't be a problem, but with my ability alone I can't possibly collect everything," Raj said honestly.
Professor Oak smiled again.
"That's fine. Even studying your Red Gyarados would already be very valuable."
So that was his real goal.
Raj rolled his eyes inwardly.
"And I can upgrade your Pokédex ahead of schedule."
That condition immediately caught Raj's attention.
Although his System could already identify Pokémon, it had malfunctioned before. If something like that happened again, having an upgraded Pokédex would be extremely useful.
Besides the knowledge he remembered from his previous life, he still lacked detailed information about many Pokémon in this world.
And normally, a Pokédex cost several million.
An upgraded version was even more valuable.
So Raj quickly agreed.
"Very good. Please give me your Pokédex," Professor Oak said.
Raj took the Pokédex from his bag and handed it over.
Professor Oak inserted a small device into it. After a moment, the indicator flashed twice, and he returned the Pokédex.
"Your Pokédex is now upgraded to the latest version. Only a few Trainers receive this model. I hope you will use it to do meaningful work. And of course, helping me collect more Pokémon data would be even better."
"As for Poké Balls, I won't give you any. I believe you don't really need them anyway, since you won't be catching large numbers of Pokémon," Professor Oak added with a smile.
"Goodbye."
Professor Oak left just as quickly as he had arrived.
Raj understood completely.
Professor Oak was extremely busy with research work. The fact that he personally visited and even asked for help already showed how much importance he placed on him.
After Professor Oak left, Raj took out his upgraded Pokédex and scanned his Pokémon one by one.
He discovered that the information displayed by the Pokédex was almost identical to the data provided by the System.
