Chapter 1 - The Therapist

Somewhere above existence, a god looked down at the universe below with a frown on his face.

Everywhere he looked there was war, poverty and disunity.

He hated it. He knew that something needed to change, after all, it was his job to keep harmony. This was the role he had sworn himself to upon ascension.

So he spent a fraction of a second thinking about how he could intervene without overstepping his boundaries.

A way to make sure that harmony remained without having to take on a physical form and enter universes himself.

An idea came to him when his gaze fell on a little blue planet in a remote corner of the world.

"Ahh, it seems that my answer has been here all along."

---

On Earth, Russia, Volgograd City.

Sitting in a dimly lit, modest office was Konstantin Dragov. He wore a black suit, which cost more money than he had the right to spend, and golden rimmed glasses that gave him a distinguished look.

His hair was blonde, and his face was handsome. Anywhere he went, people would describe him as a well put-together man.

However, despite all of this, Konstantin was a failure.

He had studied psychology at Volgograd State University to become a therapist. But now that his office was finally open, he received no customers.

The people of Russia preferred to drink their problems away rather than confront them face-to-face.

"Tskk."

Konstantin stared out of his window towards the snowy streets of Volgograd, whilst smoking a cigarette. Everywhere he looked, there was a depressive gloom that seemed to be shared by all the russian people.

He let out a sigh before taking another pull of the cigarette.

These people are so depressed, and yet they refuse to seek therapy. Is there any hope for this country?

He let out another sigh of smoke, before taking a pull again.

This time, he felt a sharp pain directly in his heart.

"Fuck!"

Konstantin dropped the cigarette and clutched at his chest, hoping for the pain to stop. He tried to rush over to his desk to take a gulp of water, anything to stop the pain! But before he could make it...

He collapsed to the floor, his consciousness swiftly taken from him.

Just like that, Konstantin Dragov had died.

And he hadn't even managed to treat a single patient.

---

Konstantin opened his eyes, and the first thing he thought was that he had arrived at the afterlife.

He never believed in god, so this instantly scared him. Wouldn't that mean that he would go to hell?

He tried his best to calm his nerves and took a look around him. It seemed as though he was floating in a world above the clouds.

Everywhere he looked, the white clouds stretched endlessly. There was no sign of any god, or anything else at all.

"Welcome, Konstantin Dragov"

Suddenly, a robotic-like voice echoed through the space, catching Konstantin off guard.

Before he could react, the voice continued.

"I know you are confused, but everything will make sense in just a moment. Please refrain from asking any questions until I have finished the introduction."

Konstantin was no fool. Whoever this voice belonged to was most likely powerful enough to destroy his soul.

So he followed its orders and remained silent.

"Welcome to your Pocket Dimension. This is a gift that has been given to you by a being whose name you have yet to earn the right to know. However, they have told me to send you their apologies for giving you such a cruel death. Their original idea was to allow you to live until you were fifty years old, until you eventually died of lung cancer, but they were not prepared to wait the twenty-seven years."

If Konstantin had a physical body, he would have shrugged.

I had no desire to live until my fifties, don't worry. I probably would have been homeless by then.

"This being understands that you were a trained doctor on earth."

"A therapist." Konstantin corrected.

"Please refrain from interrupting until our introduction is completed."

"..."

"This being understands that you were a trained doctor on earth. A doctor of the mind, he has called it, but it seems you call yourself a Therapist. They believe that these skills can be put to better use."

Well, those skills probably won't work. I am dead.

Konstantin didn't voice his thoughts aloud, in case he got himself in trouble again.

As he listened to the voice speak, he continued to look around the realm of clouds. It truly looked like heaven.

"Inside this pocket dimension, you will create an office for your Therapist Business that didn't earn you a single client on earth. This time, you will see success, as your practice will be offered not only to earth, but to the entirety of the universe"

Konstantin had already been shocked during the entire conversation. However, this confused him the most.

The entire universe? He wanted to question what this meant. Was this voice suggesting that there were other planets with inhabitants... In other words, Aliens?

He kept these thoughts to himself, as he was sure the voice would only tell him what he deserved to know.

"That is the end of your basic introduction. Before we continue, do you have any questions? I will only give answers that you are worthy of knowing."

"I have a question. Who are you?"

"I am nobody. Simply a tool to guide you until you fully grasp your role and capabilities."

I see. So this voice doesn't belong to a conscious being. It seems to be a mere creation of whichever god or devil brought me here through death.

Konstantin had a thousand questions to ask. However, due to the nature of the voice, he doubted that he would be given answers to most of them.

There was only one question that he was desperate to know the answer to. No... A question that he had to know the answer to.

After all, it was the foundation of his entire life. The reason why he decided to study psychology in the first place.

"Will my expertise as a therapist be used for the greater good, or am I just a pawn, working towards the grand schemes of a powerful god?"

The voice didn't hesitate for even a split second. It was almost as though it had a personal reason for their answer.

"Your expertise will be used to prevent the collapse of the universe. If that is how you define the greater good, then the answer is yes."

Konstantin had no physical body at the moment, but if he did, he would have been nodding his head in satisfaction.

"Then I have no more questions. Let's move on."
