It was nothing like what he had imagined. There were no high walls or heavy fortifications. Instead, farms stretched around the compound, and humans were the ones tending them.
Their bodies were thin, their faces looked so hollow, and their movements were sluggish from exhaustion.
Kai was unable to comprehend this situation.
"Why would the A.I. use humans for labor? Machines are more efficient… The A.I. should know that better… This doesn't make sense. Is this some kind of punishment?"
Kai suddenly remembered.
The mechanized army had used humans as meatshields before. Althea and Sera were the living proof of that since they had once been dragged into battle as expendable bodies.
Kai had also seen it with his own eyes. This was no different.
The A.I. didn't care about efficiency. Maybe it cared about control, about breaking humanity piece by piece.
