The outer settlement of Ironmoor Pack was smaller than she had expected.
Perhaps forty wolves in permanent residence, the kind of community that existed at the edges of pack territories everywhere, people who preferred the relative quiet of the margins to the density of the central compound. The settlement had the practical character of a working place rather than a showpiece, the buildings functional and well-maintained, the communal spaces organized around usefulness rather than impression.
