Reincarnated as a Castle – Day 11
[Status]
Points: 1
Generation: 1/Day
Consciousness returned gently with the soft morning light filtering through my narrow windows.
A breezy wind brushed playfully against my stone walls, crisp and refreshing after the chaos of the previous night's storm. The heavy rain had completely vanished, leaving behind a brilliant clear blue sky and scattered puddles that sparkled across the grassy field and overgrown courtyard around me.
Chirp. Chirp chirp.
Birds were singing, their cheerful songs ringing out as they welcomed the new day with lively energy.
Meanwhile…
(Woah! Amazing!)
I could already feel it deep inside. My core had grown slightly larger than before, now pulsing with noticeably stronger, warmer energy that flowed more vigorously through every brick and beam. I was bursting with a subtle new power!
Now that I generated one point per day, sooner or later I'd finally be able to buy something useful or upgrade my other shops. All I needed was a little patience — something I had in unlimited supply as an immortal building.
(Ahhhh~)
I inhaled mentally, pretending that the cool, fresh air was filling my non-existent lungs and invigorating every corner of my very being.
Now then, it was time for a castle's daily routine.
Which was… doing absolutely nothing!
(Haha.)
(Well, I guess I'll just sit back, relax, and hibernate for another long stretch!)
I wished I could somehow binge-watch some anime to kill the endless hours. Perhaps I could even finish that whole pirate anime series before I accumulated enough points to upgrade one of my shops again!
But then, I suddenly realized something.
(Wait a minute!)
There were chirping sounds…
And what animals chirp?
Birds?
BIRDS?!
Chirp-chirp-chirpy!
I quickly tilted my external camera angle downward, zooming in on the tiny commotion happening near my western turret.
And there they were! Not just one, but four of them!
Four little fluffballs were hopping around like they owned the entire clearing. Their feathers were a delightful mix of soft browns and pristine whites, with one noticeably bigger bird proudly sporting a bright red chest patch. It was busy preening its feathers with meticulous care, running its beak through each plume.
(Robins? I think?)
(AAA! FINALLY!)
(I FINALLY HAVE SOME FRIENDS!)
I spent the next few minutes watching them with pure, unfiltered excitement bubbling through my stone foundations.
(Awww! They're so cute!)
Chirpy chirp chirp!
Soon, they landed right on the wide windowsill of my second-floor arched window. The stone ledge was broad enough for all four to prance about comfortably, pecking curiously at the crumbling mortar between the bricks like it was a gourmet five-course meal.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
(Uh, hello? That's my wall you're snacking on,) I thought at them fondly.
Of course, they couldn't hear me. They just tilted their heads in perfect unison, staring straight at me with their shiny beady little eyes. The red-chested one even puffed up its chest feathers dramatically, as if to say, And? What are you gonna do about it, brick-face?
(Haha. How cute!)
Too bad I couldn't talk to them, or reach out to pet their soft heads. So frustrating!
Still, with these birds around, at least I wouldn't be quite so lonely anymore.
Then suddenly, the bigger one with the red chest spread its wings and flew away.
(NOOOOO!!!)
I wailed internally.
(COME BACKKK!!)
I was literally sobbing in my mind. I thought perhaps they were just using my castle as a temporary resting spot before continuing their journey.
However, a few minutes later, it returned. This time, with a small twig clutched firmly in its beak!
That was when I finally noticed it.
Nestled in the corner of the windowsill, half-hidden behind a loose stone, was a tiny, messy pile of twigs and dry grass that hadn't been there before.
(And… is that a strand of my own ivy?)
(Oh my god!)
(It is a nest!)
(HECK YEAHHH!)
(A BIRD NEST ON MY CASTLE!!!)
(The fluffballs are moving in!)
(Muahaha! Good choice, fluffy friends!)
There's literally no safer or better place to build a nest than an abandoned castle in the middle of a monster-filled forest!
I screamed in pure joy inside my mind. And to think I'd get to see baby birds soon… I couldn't believe this incredible stroke of luck!
(Aww! This is amazing!)
(But wait…)
I then noticed something else…
There was one bigger bird and three smaller ones, all sharing the same nest now…
(Aaah! I see!)
(It's a harem!)
That thought made me giggle.
From what I knew about the bird world back on Earth, robins were usually socially monogamous during the breeding season. Meaning they typically formed neat pairs — one husband and one wife — to raise and protect their children together.
But now… I was seeing… three wives?
(Haha! Guess fantasy robins are built different!)
(Hmm… now then… should I name these fellows?)
And just like that, I spent the next full hour happily thinking up the best possible names for my new tenants.
In the end, I settled on Jack for the bold male with the red chest, and Mira, Sophia, and Bella for the three females. They were actually the names of the main characters from my old webnovel.
****
And so, with the birds making their new home right within my walls, I spent the next two days simply watching them with endless fascination. If I had a mouth, there would have been a huge, goofy smile plastered permanently across my face.
After ten full days of mind-numbing boredom and crushing silence, I finally had something genuinely delightful to entertain me!
The bigger bird with the red patch — Jack — was quite the gentleman.
Not only did he diligently bring back materials for the nest, but he also flew out repeatedly to hunt worms and insects to feed all his wives. And guess what? None of the wives seemed jealous at all. They were all perfectly happy, sharing the food peacefully with one another without any drama.
Meanwhile, the three wifey birds were absolute masters of nest-building.
In just a few days, using all the branches, leaves, and soft moss Jack collected, the girls had constructed a surprisingly large and sturdy nest that could comfortably house all four of them. They even added a cozy layer of their own soft feathers on top for extra insulation and comfort.
Now, the three of them often stayed tucked inside the nest like adorable little fluffballs, spending most of their time dozing contentedly while waiting for Jack to return with more supplies.
They still went out occasionally to gather seeds and insects themselves, of course, but Jack provided the majority of the food like a true husband of the year.
And when night finally fell, the four birds snuggled close together in a warm pile, sleeping peacefully in their cozy new home.
(Awww!)
(What a lovely, wholesome family.)
I could watch them forever without getting tired!
And then, on the third day since they arrived, as soon as the first warm ray of morning sun touched my castle wall, I eagerly checked their nest…
The first egg was laid!
Damn! Watching Bella shit that smooth egg out of her ass was such a magical moment!
(WWWOOOHOOOO!)
Soon after that, Mira and Sophia each laid their own eggs too!
I couldn't contain my excitement. Their eggs were so small, so perfectly oval, and so incredibly cute.
For a brief, shameful moment, my first intrusive thought was omelets.
Yeah, I felt like an evil criminal for even thinking that.
But anyway, soon baby birds would hatch. My castle would be welcoming brand-new family members. Thus, even though they probably weren't aware of my existence at all, to me, they were already family.
As I was thinking that warm thought, a sudden question popped into my mind.
(Wait a minute!)
(Is there a way to tame these birds?)
