Summer weather was always said to change just like that. One moment the sky was clear, and suddenly the moon was covered by thick clouds. Following a boom of thunder on the horizon, heavy rain poured down in an instant.
The quiet night pier was disturbed as the torches used for illumination were extinguished by the rain. A few drunken sailors cursed while stumbling toward the nearby warehouse to take shelter.
From a bustling tavern, someone poked their head out to look. Seeing the rain growing heavier, they pursed their lips, then shrank back to continue drinking with their friends. A few figures wrapped in long cloaks hurried past the tavern door, loudly banging on the large door of an inn next door. The old gatekeeper, rudely awakened, blinked groggily, heard the knocking, and only then lit a candle, walking to the door to open it by the candlelight.
