The night I was born, my mother and her dragon Vermer both went into labor simultaneously. Both had their offspring.
Mama had me. Vermer laid her egg.
It was almost meant to be when we were chosen to bond for life— a Winchester Princess and her twin dragon egg.
I went to sleep beside her everyday. Woke up to her.
We should have died together! We should have fucking died together!
She collapsed to the ground, her body twitching, her eyes glazing over. The fire in them fading.
And I swear to God, it was like someone took something sharp to my heart, and craved it right out.
"Grace!" I screamed. "NO! GRACE!"
I rushed to my fallen dragon. I fell to my knees beside her, my hands pressing against her scales. I turned my face to Kessington.
"What did you do?! Why did you do that to her?!"
"She was going to kill you. I had to—"
"She was MY DRAGON!" I screamed at him. Then I turned back to Grace.
