Chapter 4 - Time To Go To Work...

The serum tasted... like nothing. It was strange. When people think of taking the super soldier serum (A childhood fantasy of mine) they never really consider the taste. It's strange isn't it? The possibility of gaining superhuman abilities vastly eclipses the smaller details that one would usually consider in a normal situation.

But alas, the serum tasted like nothing. Even as I drank it, the only sensation I got was it entering my stomach. Well... that, and the white hot agony that wiped from every pore of my body like aI was taking a shower in lava.

FUUUUUUCK! I scream internally, biting my tongue to keep from howling out loud. Really was not a smart idea in the slightest, because but even three seconds later, the copper-tinged taste of blood filled my mouth.

But hey... there's a reason they say that hindsight is 20-20. Because you always see clearly when you look back. Not wanting to be my tongue, I reach down and grab a fistful of dirt, willing it to turn into the rubber material that a baby's chew toy is made up of.

Almost as soon as it transmutes into a lump of rubbery latex material still in the shape and texture of the dirt, it turns into a shape most recognize as an athlete's mouth guard.

That would be due to the effect of my molecular reorganization which was used almost by instinct in my moment of pain, resulting in a fluid and almost instantaneous transformation of the handful of dirt from dirt to rubber to mouthpiece.

Bing, bang, boom.

Stuffing the newly formed mouthpiece into my mouth, I attempt to ride out the pain I'm feeling from transformation occurring inside my body.

After roughly a few more minutes, I feel it vanish completely. I was kind of expecting a gradual recovery and the slew ebbing of the pain as I marveled my new body.

But... that would be how a movie director would've done it. Me on the other hand... this was my reality. No director cuts or dramatic transformations. This was real life. And the irony of that statement is not lost on me. For most, this is as far removed from reality as any sane person could be.

Hell, I remember watching this show on occasion in my past life, not knowing that three years later I would die, only to find this world my new 'Real Life' and Earth the 'Fantasy'.

If I walked up to a strange and told them I was from a world where metal and glass buildings taller than mountains formed a city bigger than some regions here, they'd look at me like how my grandma looked at me when I said I wasn't having kids. Like I'm crazy.

Well... my grandma thought I was crazy because she didn't think I was willing to risk getting a whupping for pissing her off, but I digress.

Standing up... I launched up. Yup. Hand on the Bible, honest to God... launched up. I in my stupidity forgot one minor, teeny tiny tidbit of information, which seems to be happening a bit often lately upon further reflection.

That minor detail? The adjustment period.
