My dear diary,
Living as a nim in an Alonma tree is a boring life.
I am eighteen years old, and I have never done anything interesting other than sleeping, waking up, and tending to the eggs the tree produces—so new hatchlings can come and take our places, tending more eggs in the future.
It is very routine.
My peers don't mind the routine much. They find comfort in it.
But I want to see what's outside the bark of this big tree.
A month ago, a traveler came by.
He was unlike anything I had ever seen.
He had tanned skin.
Robotic, strong limbs.
An oddly flat chest.
Light clothing.
Brown hair.
Yellowish eyes.
He looked confused when he saw our massive tree.
The other nims said he only looked at it for a while, took out a small knife, tore a tiny piece of flesh from the tree—and left.
But the way his eyes moved.
The way he stood.
Ahhh… damn it.
I wish I could have talked to him.
So I decided to make a small… rebellious act.
Tomorrow night, when every other nim is asleep, I will sneak out of the tree.
I've made up my mind.
After all, the world must be more complex than living inside bark for an entire life.
Hopefully, I will find him again.
