Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: PATROL BEFORE DAWN

I've always wanted more than I had but never thought it would end up like this.

It's three passed midnight. I can't sleep and I try to shift the iron collar on my neck in my underground cellar I call my room. My bed is made out of straw and most of the room has moss growing on the walls.

"You still asleep?", Master Dell asks as he makes his way to the cellar from a flight of stairs that lead outside.

"The collar woke me up", I tug at it a bit more trying to convince him.

"Have you tried taking it off?", Master dell sarcastically asks and chuckles. He makes it to the top side of my bed with a lantern he brought, the only light source in the cellar.

I get out of bed trying to look as exhausted as possible.

Master Dell walks to the chair and table in the corner of my room Infront of my bed and beside a book shelf.

"You really enjoy sleeping at this hour don't you Yori?", he places the lantern on the table and rests his cane on his side after taking a seat.

"With how much work you make me do I feel like I deserve this much", I point to a pile of clothes under the table. Master Dell uses his cane to push some of the clothes towards me.

"Hurry up and get dressed, you won't be leaving an old man to patrol the village of Kopumula alone now, will you?".

I take a look at the clothes he pushed my way and notice something about them as Master walks away. "These are all Shirts!".

I sigh and quickly start to look for my pants. I find a sweat pant and a blue and red long sleeved checkered shirt.

As I pass through the door to the stairs that go outside, the foul smell of dried blood threatens my sanity.

I rush out to the end of the stairs.

They lead out to the inside of a barn.

I look to Master Dell who is almost made it to the top of the silver tower in the middle of the town.

Master Dell notices Yori's glaring as he climbs the silver tower and turns to face Yori. "How far are they?".

Yori rests his head in his hands out of irritation, "They've almost made it to the clearing…You said this was a patrol".

Master Dell continues to climb the tower to the top with his walking cane rested at the bottom of the tower.

Meanwhile, silence lingers in the forest beyond the large clearing in front of the barn.

I hear for any of the villagers being above ground as I my make my way to the clearing.

"Make sure your safe now!", shouts a loud voice that startles me.

I look at the top of the silver tower after noticing it's Master who waves and continues with, "and don't get in my line-of-sight boy".

I ignore him and try to hear if any of the villagers are still outside.

Found one. Sounds like they're heading for the bunkers. What the hell were they doing outside at 12 A.M? I have to let Master Dell know without alerting the Vampires.

I deliberately walk out to the middle of the clearing; the scent of dry blood gets even stronger than before. I stretch my hand out to the sky and raise my index finger.

I can feel my heart start to pound faster; I have to make sure they don't get to the villager. I hope Master Dell noticed my signal.

From the edge of the forest in front of the clearing, Vampires walk out; eyes blood shot red, torn bloodied clothes each one of them with pointy ears.

Looks like they're seven of them but smells more like eleven.

One from the seven rushes to attack me with his sharp claws. He's fast but I can keep up.

I jump back and put my arms up to guard.

He scratches at my arms with little to almost no effect. I'm larger than the average person, meaning, I don't go down that easily.

The scratch marks from the vampire disappear from my arms, the other vampires in the background notice too.

Before the one in front of me reacts, I hear a gunshot. The sound of it almost makes my head spin.

The vampires look confused. One of them is dead amongst the ones that stood back.

A bullet whole clear enough to see even at 12 A.M on their head. It's Master Dell.

I punch the one in front of me sending him flying into one of the tree trunks in the forest. The vampires catch on and begin to scatter.

I hear another gunshot, a vampire from the ones scattering is pushed back from the bullets force, falls to the ground and dies almost instantly.

I can hear the rest from the forest rushing to swarm the village, I'm fast but not fast enough to catch up with all of them.

"Yori! Run back!", Master Dell shouts.
