"What's going on…? Did someone just cry for help?"
"Let's go take a look!"
Durandal and Theresa exchanged a glance and immediately rushed in the direction of that familiar voice.
After defeating several rampaging Honkai beasts—
Amidst a cloud of dust,
A man was kneeling on the ground, looking rather disheveled.
But soon—
As the dust settled!
Whether it was Theresa and the others, or the supernaturals watching from beyond the screen—
Everyone froze in shock.
What… was going on?!
There he was, kneeling amid the clearing dust—dressed in noble purple attire, long golden hair tied and draped over his left shoulder, emerald-green eyes gleaming like precious gemstones!
Though his face and clothes were smudged with dirt, making him look somewhat bedraggled,
It did nothing to conceal the natural nobility and elegance that clung to him!
"O—Otto?!"
In an instant,
Countless voices cried out in disbelief.
This… the mysterious figure who emerged from the dust—
Was Otto?!
But… what was with that dazed, flustered look on his face?!
Why did Otto look so utterly lost and vulnerable?!
[Ningguang: Otto?!]
[Keqing: What's going on???]
[Tesla: Why is this guy suddenly here…?!]
[Kamisato Ayaka: Something's wrong… Otto's expression looks… confused?]
[March 7th: A conspiracy?!]
[Tesla: This… really feels off??]
[Durandal: The Overseer's eyes… they look much more immature somehow??]
[Otto: Has anyone considered the possibility that that isn't me?]
In the footage,
Theresa and the others, witnessing this bizarre scene firsthand, stared at this strange "Otto" in disbelief.
Before long—
Just as Otto himself suggested in the chat—
This person in front of them…
Really wasn't him!
Or rather—
He seemed to be Otto from five hundred years ago, before he ever became the Overseer of Schicksal?!
The severity of the spacetime distortion in this area far exceeded everyone's expectations!
And this Otto—
Was very likely from a parallel world!
All at once,
This sudden revelation left everyone utterly stunned!
The previous spacetime fragments had been nothing more than sensations or audio snippets—
But now, an entire living person had appeared.
That was far harder to accept.
"Um… give me a moment to sort this out."
Five-hundred-years-ago Otto spoke with a troubled look.
Yet his habitual thinking gesture was exactly the same—his right hand lightly supporting his chin.
"So… what you're saying is, this is the year 2017. You're all from 2017. And you all know me?"
"Then why else would I call you Grandpa?!"
Theresa frowned deeply.
Even now, she could hardly process the idea of meeting her grandfather from five centuries ago.
Seeing that Theresa's expression showed no sign of deception, Otto blinked.
"But even if everything you say is true… how could I possibly live for over five hundred years?"
Durandal interjected, "You created mechanical prosthetic bodies for yourself."
But beside her,
Tesla clearly had far less control over her emotions.
"Hmph, yeah—and you also pulled stunts like stealing other people's bodies with Trojan programs! Either way, I don't trust you at all!"
"At the very least, you need to prove that you really are from the 15th century."
"Your existence is way too abnormal. All the other spacetime leaks around here—none of them are anything like you, a living, breathing person!"
Looking at that elegant, handsome face,
Those emerald-green eyes like gemstones—
Tesla's mind was instantly flooded with countless nightmares that had jolted her awake in the middle of the night.
She couldn't rein in her temper at all.
Her voice came out sharp and irritable.
And Tesla's tone—her hostility and wariness—
Made this five-hundred-years-ago Otto understand something.
"Uh… I suppose that's reason enough for you to be wary of me. But it really feels like my future self must've done a lot of things you find hard to forgive…"
Tesla: "Hard to forgive?! You—!!"
In her fury, Tesla nearly raised her fist.
But after taking a few heavy breaths, she ultimately abandoned the thought of punching this young Otto.
"…Forget it. If you really are a 15th-century version of him, beating you up now wouldn't change anything anyway. I can't exactly take responsibility for a parallel world's future."
"Parallel worlds, huh? That does sound reasonable. After all, it avoids time paradoxes."
Tesla: "Yeah. That's basic philosophical common sense."
Tesla: "—Wait, now's not the time for idle chatter. Theresa, Durandal—what do you think we should do with this guy?"
Theresa looked at the clear confusion and innocent sincerity in this Otto's eyes.
After hesitating, she said,
"Help him return to five hundred years ago? But Doctor, you just said it yourself—this person could also be Grandpa pretending for some unknown reason…"
Theresa's hesitation immediately sparked discussion among the supernaturals.
[Keqing: Pretending?? Otto… would he really go that far…]
[Keqing: …Cough. Actually, now that I think about it, he totally might.]
[Tesla: With that guy, nothing he does would be surprising! He's that annoying!]
[March 7th: But is Otto's acting really that good…]
[Kafka: Someone who toys with human nature and manipulates hearts would of course be excellent at controlling his expressions.]
Still—
After just a brief exchange,
Their doubts about this Otto's identity had already diminished considerably.
Exchanging a glance, Durandal said,
"I don't think he's pretending to be confused. But if you want to take him back to the Hyperion for further investigation, I don't object."
"Still, from my perspective, our top priority remains exploring this anomalous space."
Tesla spoke bluntly,
"You're not wrong, but I still think we should rule out every possibility. Otherwise, he might turn out to be a ticking time bomb!"
As she spoke,
Tesla's gaze locked onto this Otto, as if trying to see straight through him.
"…It seems my future self really is someone you're afraid of," Otto said quietly.
But—
What this Otto didn't expect was that his look of sympathy and concern would directly trigger a flood of memories Tesla could never forget.
Her emotions exploded instantly.
"—Tch! Who asked you to butt in?!"
"Do you have any idea what the bastard wearing your face has done?! Want me to list a few of his disgusting crimes for you?!"
"Dr. Tesla, please restrain your emotions."
Durandal quickly stepped in to stop Tesla from continuing.
"I know the Overseer has done many things that wronged you. But compared to past grudges, we have more urgent matters to deal with right now."
Otto nodded.
He didn't seem offended by Tesla's anger or rudeness at all.
He continued gently,
"So it's the chaos of time itself, then. To you, I'm someone both familiar and unfamiliar."
"And to me, it was only a brief moment—one instant I was on a battlefield that had just ended in victory, and the next, everything around me had become strange, with all the people gone."
Tesla froze.
"Battlefield?"
"Yes. We had just defeated the main forces of Schicksal's headquarters in this town—completely annihilated the Overseer's personal guard."
"Wait, wait, wait—you, Otto Apocalypse, led an army here and defeated Schicksal's main force? You came from that point in time?!"
Hearing this, the Otto-like man muttered to himself, thinking for a few seconds.
"So it seems… which means our histories really are quite similar."
Durandal confirmed his words.
"In 1491, such a battle did indeed take place. At that time, Otto—who had not yet become Overseer—led a rebel army and defeated Schicksal's main forces here."
Theresa nodded as well.
"My grandfather was the legitimate heir to the position of Overseer, but due to a series of events, his sister and nephew stripped him of all authority."
"Their reign of terror lasted for over a decade—until Grandpa overthrew them with the support of the people."
With Theresa and Durandal's explanations,
The chat was filled with murmurs.
Otto… supported by the people?
No matter how you heard it, it sounded strange.
Even knowing the historical record—that Otto overthrew Old Schicksal—
Hearing it phrased like this still felt hard to reconcile.
Tesla spoke her mind without restraint.
"With all due respect, I've never been able to imagine how someone like him could earn the people's support! He probably used some kind of trick!"
The Otto-like man didn't seem offended by her sarcasm.
After a moment of silence, he spoke in a reflective tone.
"That's true. Rather than saying I was particularly capable, it might be more accurate to say that people were willing to let me serve as a symbolic totem."
"They didn't unite because of me—but because of the legend of the Saint."
"The Saint's legend? You mean Schicksal's Saint—Kallen Kaslana?"
"Of course. In the world I know, there has never been a second Saint."
Otto's emerald eyes lowered.
And in that moment,
Everyone sensed something achingly familiar.
Perhaps only when speaking of Kallen would these two Ottos—separated by five hundred years, even by different worlds—show the same sorrowful expression.
That unwavering devotion to Kallen—
It seemed it would never change.
"Kallen… she died because of me. I couldn't bear that sin."
"My mind was filled with nothing but the desire to escape myself in the meaningless remainder of my life."
"At that time, I didn't dare—didn't want to—and didn't have the strength to face a world without her."
"I fled to a small island the Venetians used as a graveyard, and under the name of a priest, I opened an abbey to take in special orphans."
"I was, after all, a noble. Even in my destitution, I still had the means to live as I wished."
"But the common people under Schicksal's rule—even if they had completely lost hope in life—could only endure unbearable days, one after another."
"And so the Saint became a kind of faith among the people. They believed Kallen's death was an act of atonement for the sins of all who were born."
"They revered everything connected to the Saint, using that spiritual anchor to resist Schicksal's dark rule."
As this Otto spoke,
The supernaturals watching couldn't help but feel shaken—and moved.
No matter the world.
No matter the era.
In Otto's heart,
Kallen was always that sacred, exalted existence.
So much so that—
From Otto's lips,
All anyone ever heard were legends of the Saint.
[March 7th: As expected… the only thing he has in common with the Otto we know.]
[March 7th: He's like this the moment Kallen comes up…]
[Silver Wolf: Different worlds—same feelings for Kallen.]
[Keqing: …Sigh.]
